Review

"...a fresh approach to a familiar idea..."—Rocky Mountain News

"Most people only get a chance to see baseball in a handful of parks during a lifetime. The authors saw all of them and it shows."— Olympian

From the Back Cover

They’ve done it again! Years ago two baseball fanatics set out to create a comprehensive guide to all the diverse and fascinating ballparks throughout the country. What they created—part travel manual, part ballpark atlas, part baseball history book, part restaurant and city guide—is every baseball fan’s epic adventure. On this, their second Ultimate Baseball Road Trip, the authors updated their information on every venue from Boston to L.A., and they wrote brand new chapters for the brand new parks—the new Yankee Stadium, Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park, the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the Mets’ Citi Field, San Diego’s Petco Park, Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., the Twins’ Target Field, and Miami’s Marlins Ballpark.

Plus, they’ve added loads of information on how new technology has enhanced the fan experience and changed the game. And they’ve recorded their very own colorful real-time stories and dialogue at the parks, among the local fans, and hanging out in the Big League cities. It’s like you’re right there with Josh and Kevin watching the game and yucking it up!

Ticket and travel information • The best and worst seats in each park • Folklore and statistics on each park • Each park’s trademark foods • Profiles of nearby sports bars and baseball attractions • All the information you need to navigate Major League Baseball on the Internet!

Funny, irreverent, and loaded with more than 100 photos, The Ultimate Baseball Road Trip is the go-to guide for every fan’s armchair or real-life baseball road trip.

My family has visited over 20 baseball parks since the first edition of this book was published, so I was thrilled to see that an updated version of it was available. The information given in the book is very VERY useful when planning a trip to a park you've never been to, starting with what sections have the best seats (and which sections to avoid) when purchasing tickets, how to get there (including public transportation options), where to park if you drive, what foods to try (or avoid) while at the game, and especially all the information about the features in and around the ballpark. The true baseball fanatic will enjoy the historical information for each ballpark/team. It's enjoyable to read, in no way is it a dry book of facts. I highly recommend it for any fan planning a trip to a baseball park for a major league game.

I read the reviews prior to purchasing this book ...and expected a good product...but nothing this good. The details included are great not only on the ball parks themselves but the surrounding areas. The feedback is also geared to the "normal traveler" not people who live the lives of the "rich and famous". I also like how the authors included personal stories of interactions with friends and/or relatives they visited with in the different cities
and their local customs (foods, games, etc.). My husband and I like visiting new and different ball parks...and we are even more energized to continue our visits agfter receiving this book!

My husband and I have joined Red Sox nation and each year when the schedule comes out, we pick a different ballpark to visit to see the Red Sox play. We use this book as a guide to get an insight into the different stadiums and the food to eat and what to look for. We have visited 7 stadiums and look forward to going to all of them and using this book as our guide.

Several years ago my wife and I decided to go on a baseball road trip, and we purchased the first edition of this book along with several other baseball road trip books. It wasn't very long when this book was completely battered and warn and the other books spent most of their time in the trunk of our car. This basically has everything you will want in a baseball road trip book, it reviews the seats, beer, food (even trademark food like Walleye on a Stick at Target Field and Rocky Mountain Oysters at Coors field), hot dogs, parking, where to buy tickets from scalpers, stadium and team history, bars and restaurants in the area, and other attractions in the area. Personally, I can't imagine visiting a new baseball stadium without first reading their section on it, and subsequently following their advice to get the most out of the trip. In addition, the authors have a great sense of humor which makes every section an enjoyable read. While I now have two young daughters and my stadium touring is currently on hiatus for a few more years, I still purchased the latest edition because it is such a great read.

If you are looking to visit any MLB Stadium and you are searching for a guide book, this is the one that you need.

I used the hard copy to plan a baseball park road trip around the great lakes. It was very helpful in picking out good seats. I also downloaded an e-copy on my kindle for quick reference during the trip in finding good places to eat nearby the ballparks and what to eat and where to get drinks at the parks. The book is also enjoyable to read with historical notes and amusing stories about each ballpark.

Josh and Kevin's Ultimate Baseball Road Trip book is the Ultimate Road Trip book for baseball fans. You don't have to even visit any of the parks to appreciate their great writing, friendly style, and well-organized layout.

Even though I write about baseball, I'm not a baseball fanatic. I don't know the stats and figures associated with each team, and probably can't name the most important historical players in any consistent fashion. But Josh and Kevin can, and they've written an interesting and easy-to-read overview of ALL the MLB ballparks. Even if you're not planning on heading out on a baseball road trip, the book is an interesting overview of different cities and all the quirks that make baseball our national pastime.

I've been using the first version of this book for years and I'm thrilled they updated it with all the new stadiums (something like eight) and stuff that's happened since 2004. I don't head for a baseball park without first reading a chapter from Josh and Kevin.

This book is a must for any baseball fan. But it's also a must for anyone who enjoys a good read and wants to experience all the cool sights and sounds (and smells and tastes) of major league parks.

The Ultimate Baseball Road Trip is a tremendous travelogue that is accessible to casual and non-fans, but with plenty of red meat for the diehards. It is an invaluable resource for anyone ever intending or aspiring to venture away from their home ball field to see a game. It deftly blends history, humor, and trivia better than any travel guide I have seen. It also provides excellent advice about buying the right tickets, so fans are not stuck staring at a load-bearing beam throughout the game. And most importantly, the book serves as a culinary divining rod, steering readers towards the best food available at or near the park (because what is worse than an unsatisfying meal before/during/after a game?). Armed with this book, readers may ensure a pleasurable trip, from the planning stages right through to the post-game dash for the exit. This is a perfect gift for any fan. My advice is to present it to the lucky fan in your life with a pair of tickets inserted as bookmarks.
