Thumbs up for The Ultimate Basic Training Guide Book,
By
This review is from: The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook (Paperback)
I found this book to be helpful in a number of ways. Initially I purchased it because I had never really known what basic training was going to be like and I wanted an "inside look," which Mr. Volkin's book offered. However, after I had read the book the first time I was glad to have it for other reasons- it gave me truly useful tips, helped me figure out the type of work out I needed to be on in order to be best prepared for Basic Training and it helped me learn Military acronyms and slang- without which, I would have been sorely out of luck when I got to Basic. I would recommend this book to anyone contemplating Military Service- I couldn't imagine going in without the knowledge and perspective it offers.

An excellent guide for basic training in the Army,
By
This review is from: The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook (Paperback)
Although I have not completed basic training as of yet, I have found Volkin's book to be extremely informative. I went from knowing very little about the Army and basic training, to understanding such things as: rank structure, the roll of drill sergeants, how much sleep to expect at basic training, day to day activities, battle buddies, the gas chamber, and so on. This book laid to rest most of my worries and anxieties concering basic training.

This book pretty much tells you everything you need to know to prepare for Basic Training. There are a couple other books out there but they dont offer a fitness program like this one. The fitness program really whips you into shape too. Also, the book has a helpful packing list which includes EVERYTHING you need to bring to basic training, down to the last pair of socks. I highly recommend this book for anyone entering any branch of the military.

I would definately recommend this book to anyone planning on going through basic training. It allowed me to prepare myself mentally and physically for the challenges I faced every day better than most people around me. If you want to have an edge over everyone else in being successful, this is the book for you.
A MUST-read for sure

The REAL straight skinny on boot camp!,
By
This review is from: The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook (Paperback)
"The Ultimatte Basitc Training Guidebook" should be required reading for every high school guidance counsellor, for every home-school parent, as well as for commandants of every high school junior ROTC unit in the land! For prospective military recruits, it is the information MOTHER LODE! (This book is like having all the questions and answers to a final exam IN ADVANCE!) Basic trainees need to approach boot camp with a certain "mindset." For too many recruits this "mindset" comes well into basic training, making the initial phase in particular much harder than it has to be. Hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20. So why not get a leg up before you sign up? If you read and follow SGT Volkin's advice, born of hard won experience, you'll get started on your military career on the right foot, or, as you will learn in basic training, more accurately, on the LEFT foot! When you graduate from boot camp, you'll look back on the money you spent to buy this book as some of the BEST money you ever spent!
