4.0 out of 5 stars Great for "NEW to Guitar" players
If you want to "test" the waters with that child who "just has to play guitar" than this is the book. You will not find many book/CD combos for this price. There is enough information to get the new player off the ground and realizing that they can learn from materials and do not necassarily need a $15.00 a half hour instructor. For the price, the instruction on tuning...

1.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Beginner Acoustic Guitar
This book just contained a minimum amount of information to get started playing acoustic guitar, a few chords and that's about it. I would sugest bying "Guitar for Dummies", which contains a lot more information and some songs to practice with. Bottom line don't waste your monney on this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not super-helpful, September 8, 2004
This review is from: The Ultimate Beginner Series: Acoustic Guitar Basics, Steps One & Two Combined (Paperback)
This book is minimalist in the extreme - a real beginner is going to need fingering exercises and weeks of practice before mastering even the most basic chords. And this book doesn't give you sufficient guidance in those crucial initial stages. Is it a good buy? Yes. But it's not enough to replace a teacher or a more thorough book/video set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sojourner, August 29, 2003

This book is by far the best beginner method book that I've come across. It gives you the basics ( types of guitars, tuning, changing strings, etc. ) then it goes right into learning chords.

I would recommend it for the beginner

This book is very useful for people who just got an acoustic guitar but dont know how to play. It shows you how to string it, the notes, the diffrent types, and a lot more. I bought this book because i didn't really know how to play the guitar. This book showed me everything i needed to know. If you really need help on playing an acoustic guitar this is the one you need. It even comes with a computer CD. Get this book it will be worth it for its price!!!

One of the easiest to use, most fast-paced beginner guides to learning guitar that I have yet encountered. It covers all the basics and covers them well.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thought I Was Getting a Little More Than What I Got, February 6, 2007
This review is from: The Ultimate Beginner Series: Acoustic Guitar Basics, Steps One & Two Combined (Paperback)
The book is a good book to start with but it came with a cd that isn't that helpful. I thought it would be a dvd, but it wasn't. It just seems like a dvd of the lessons would have been more practical and not a cd for a beginner.
