I have never played drums but always wanted to learn. So I got a small digital drum set. I was not satisfied with the instruction video that came with it and decided to try "The Ultimate Beginner Series Drum Basics" with Sandy Gennaro instructing.

The instruction itself is clear, articulate, and each lesson builds on the next. But his professionalism and obvious passion for drumming shines through every moment and is a real inspiration. This guy has not an ounce of pretension or ego - he just REALLY loves to play the drums, is completely expert yet can easily relate to the beginner. In two weeks, I was able to play right along with everything he does in the example sessions. I also have never been able to understand how to read music for tempo and rhythm, but understood it easily when he explained it, and even understood the basics of how to read drum music!

I am a 49 year old women with no previous experience, so if I can do this I would bet that anyone can. We are all born with a sense of rhythm, and if you think you don't have one you're wrong. This guy will help you rediscover it. I am actually back online right now to see if I can find any other instructional DVDs he has done.

I'm a new drummer and this is the first instructional DVD I've viewed. I found it quite informative; Sandy is a great teacher and, though rather informal, obviously has the knowledge of and passion for the drums. The format of the program appears to have covered the basics; I not only feel 'drum-smarter', but I was playing simple combinations along with Sandy in no time. I'll be able to view it several more times and eventually learn the more complex moves he taught. I really enjoyed this DVD and am glad I bought it.

Listen, if you are a beginner drummer I think this video is fantastic. I never picked up a pair of sticks before and after watching this video, I was able to count and play with 3 different limbs. This gino from the NY know's how to rock. He teachs posture, some technique but the mainly the fundamentals.

This is a great dvd for the beginning drummer,it covers the basics,but that's what this 2 part intructional DVD is called:"Drum Basics"!!! So if you're a beginning drummer,than this DVD is quite a bargain for the money!!! A very fun and informative DVD with a great instuctor/teacher to guide you along!!! Well,signing off and good luck on "your" drumming!!! Two thumbs up!!! Way Up!!! A+

I really like this, I started drumming that day and could do it with clear understanding. He also goes through the video slow and precise so that the beginner can undersand a lot about drums, not only where to hit and when. I wish it were longer but I will try to find more in this series. I also bought 2 others that are not nearly as informational as this video.

This is an easy to follow and well organized intro into learning to play the drums. I was playing along with the DVD less than an hour after I got it! However, it does leave the learner feeling like there could have been more beats introduced, and more rythyms discussed. But overall a very good way to introduce yourself to a drum kit.

I bought this and the Igoe DVD at the same time. As an old man learning to play for the first time I need all the help I can get. It is an interesting approach on how to incorporate the drums but in my opinion there wasn't any thing ultimate about it. If you are going to buy a video, I would suggest Igoe's.

Very informative for the beginners and unlike other learning tools not boring at all - fun to learn! I could play the first bit he explains just in a few hours. If you want to learn how to play drums, buy it, you will not regret this.

After playing air drums for so many years I thought it was time to try the real thing. I didn't want anything to complicated, just something to get me started. This DVD did just that. After a initial setup and a how to hold the drum sticks lesson I was playing my first beat. There is enough information provided to keep you occupied for at least a month before you have the need for more. The only draw back is that there is not a include book or pdf file for reference.

There are a zillion free drum lessons on line, so why buy this one? Well, it is simple: This is like going to a real first (or maybe second) drum lesson with an instructor that you really like, who cares about you, and getting just the perfect amount of information that you can practice over and over to lay a great foundation for what's to come. I have yet to find that on the on-line versions, and having a high-quality DVD is quite handy. This is one good product for the money and it seems that it should be in ANY beginner's arsenal.
