5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Holiday Ideas!!!
I run a day home and with Christmas coming up it was wonderful to find so many ideas for the little ones to do. First, we made the Chocolate Kisses for them to give their parents for Chrismas.

A BIG one for the dads and a smaller one for the moms. :-) Actually, I already had some white chocolate at home, so I bought some bags of butterscotch chips and mixed them in...

1.0 out of 5 stars ...
What a disappointment! (...) The "recipes" are all same old, same old -- nothing remotely unique or original. The only difference is that they're decorated for holidays, but I could have figured out for myself to glue on a shamrock for St. Patrick's Day, or whatever. Also, gluing wiggly eyes to a rock is not exactly a "concoction", nor does it require buying a...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Holiday Ideas!!!, December 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ultimate Book of Holiday Kid Concoctions (Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions) (Paperback)
I run a day home and with Christmas coming up it was wonderful to find so many ideas for the little ones to do. First, we made the Chocolate Kisses for them to give their parents for Chrismas.

A BIG one for the dads and a smaller one for the moms. :-) Actually, I already had some white chocolate at home, so I bought some bags of butterscotch chips and mixed them in and got caramel chocolate, so that's what the dads got and the moms got the real chocolate. We wrapped them in cellophane and put them in gift bags so they look really cute. I also put little strips of paper in the tops saying 'dad, you're the best' and 'we love you, mom.' Needless to say, one of my daughters saw them and wanted to know where hers is. by the way, she's married with children.

We have also made the applesauce/cinnamon ornaments this week, so at the moment they are drying and next week we will decorate them with glitter and so on. The kids had a ball kneeding the dough in the plastic bag. They sat in a circle and passed it around so everyone could have a squeeze. To tell the truth I was a little skeptical that it would turn into dough, but 'presto', it worked.

Tommorow I am going on a hunt for the red and white Christmas candy to make the candy wreaths. as crazy as it sounds, so far I have not been able to find it in Calgary, so I am hoping to find some of it somewhere so that we can make the wreaths next week.

Oh, and I nearly forgot, I also tried the Ice Cream, but that was for me. :-)
I have just ordered your 2 previous books and can't wait to get them.
Thanks again for the lovely ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Series!, October 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ultimate Book of Holiday Kid Concoctions (Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions) (Paperback)
This third book in the Kid Concoctions series is by far the best. Not only are there dozens of unique and creative projects that can be made for pennies with household ingredients, there are also hundreds of tips and suggestions for celebrating holidays year round. My children and I look forward to making our holiday concoctings. Great job! I hope the authors keep up the good work and keep those concoction books coming!

What a disappointment! (...) The "recipes" are all same old, same old -- nothing remotely unique or original. The only difference is that they're decorated for holidays, but I could have figured out for myself to glue on a shamrock for St. Patrick's Day, or whatever. Also, gluing wiggly eyes to a rock is not exactly a "concoction", nor does it require buying a book.
Even the actual recipes are losers ... For example, the one for snow globes doesn't specify non-metal glitter, non-metal figures, distilled water, *OR* silicone adhesive -- all of which are essential if you want the globe to last more than a few days.
The book seems to have been rushed to press with any ole crafts just to fill the pages, without regard for whether or not they'll last more than a few days -- much less whether or not they're even crafts or recipes. YUCK....

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Holiday Book Ever!!, November 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ultimate Book of Holiday Kid Concoctions (Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions) (Paperback)
My Children and I have spent countless fun filled hours creating many of the fresh, new, and creative projects in this book. Our favortes include the Swap Gunk and Goblin Make-up, these two projects along with the monster hand punch made our halloween party a hit! We are just now starting to create the pepermint wreaths and bird cookies for Christmas. All of the projects we made were quick, easy and inexpensive to create. This book is a hands down winner and is leaps and bounds better than any other Holiday craft book I have seen!

5.0 out of 5 stars You HAVE to get this book!, February 27, 2010

If you are a teacher, if you are a parent, if you are a kid---you need this book! As with the other "concoction" books, the crafts are simple to make and affordable (cheap!) to make. I got one for my school library and I can't keep it on the shelves!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful book family time book!, September 11, 2009
This book is full of great craft and art ideas. They are mostly made from simple things you already have on hand (flour, salt, cooking oil, toilet paper rolls, ziplocs, styrofoam cups, etc) and all are non-toxic.
Many of the recipes aren't just non-toxic, but actually edible (and some are quite tasty too).
My children and I enjoyed this series of books immensely over the years. As my children outgrew them I passed them along. However, now that I have grandchildren, I had to buy them yet again, so the fun can continue.
Of all the books of this sort I've encountered over the years as a mother of 5, and a preschool teacher, these are, BY FAR, the best. I recommend them to anyone that enjoys spending a little messy, quality time with their kids.

My grandaughter is 3 years old. Some of these activities are too old for her, but we've done many of the easier ones together. She and I both love concocting stuff. I know we'll enjoy the other creations as she gets old.

Lots of creative ideas that teach children about other cultures. Very innovative, not the same old things you see in other books!
