4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting CD for the serious Rick fan, May 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
First CD with mix of Rick's 70's stuff with his 80's big hits. I bought it for the 70's tracks that are otherwise difficult to find. There are two or three songs from each of 70's albums plus a few that have never been released. "Child Within" is from the unreleased "Springfield" album that Columbia shelved in '74. It's weepy, overdramatic song about a young girl getting pregnant out of wedlock...fluff. "American Girls" rocks harder than most of his early music (do not confuse this song with "American Girl" on Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet). The Glam Metal version of Eleanor Rigby make for an interesting listen...nothing like the Beatles! Also thrown in is the original version of "Bruce" where the piano carries the tune instead of the guitar as on the horrible "Beautiful Feelings." Nothing from the "Mission Magic" LP is on this CD. If your a hard core Rick fan, you'll enjoy this look back at the early years. Now if they will just re-release on CD "Beginnings" and "Wait For Night"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, Early Springfield on CD!, February 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I completely agree with the reviews. This CD contains his first American hit "Speak to the Sky", "American Girls", which is a rocker, and was a "regional" top 20 hit in the Pacific Northwest. Remember them? Songs were often hits in parts of the country, and not in others. Now is it ALL nationwide, decide for yourself whether that is good or not. "Take a Hand" is another incredible find. I had not heard this song in over 20 years, yet I remembered every single note. From track 13 on, we get the very hard to find Rick Springfield, and I couldn't recommend it more. I have been searching for "American Girls" for over 20 years, as it was never on an album, to my knowledge. Many thanks to the people who put this out, with top-notch remastering as well!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD but...., October 5, 2000
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I love this CD but the song Arcangel sounds a little slow.. All in all a nice collection of his hits. Jessie's Girl is there along with all the other 80's faves. It even has Comic Book Heroes, I'm Your Superman, and Believe in Me.. This is the essential collection to have that spans most of his career.. There are great pictures of Rick in there too! It is a great collection, and a fond way to see Rick, before he was JESSIE's Girl... A must have!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! A must for any Rick Springfield fan!, December 15, 2001
This review is from: Ultimate Collection: Anthology (Audio CD)
If you like Rick Springfield or just good old Rock & Roll.. you have to get this album! Someone mentioned Archangel being a little slow... it's one of my FAVORITES! Not everything has to be 900 miles an hour <Angel isn't what I'd call slow <G>) Another great song on this one is Bruce... It's soooo funny! I can listen to it over and over and ... welll it's a good thing I'm not his backup singer... one part could be emabarrassing <G>. (Listen to it and use your imagination.. if you've seen Rick live... well you know he can be a goof so that will help you<G>) Now I've loved anything Rick Springfield since well..I wouldn't want to make Rick feel any older...(A girl mentioned something about having seen him when she was 14 and he said something about god I'm getting old.) so I'll just say... for a long time (Mom loves reminded me that I would yell 'mom, I'm going to marry him.' before I really knew what marry was <G> It's got stuff from the beginning of his career, which until now I hadn't been able to get... All in all I say great album has something for everyone and I might end up playing this poor CD to dust! Oh make sure you get his lastest ones... KARMA and Greatest Hits Alive (if you listen hard <G> I'm on one of those tracks <G> <I get excited>)

5.0 out of 5 stars "Bruce" makes it all worthwhile, September 1, 2004

Anyone who has ever heard the song "Bruce" and does not fall down laughing just does not get satire. Springfield has it nailed! This song alone is woruth the entire CD. Finally, someone who does not take himself seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars RICK PACKS A PUNCH, April 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthology (Audio CD)
I helped the producers get this CD to market by supplying them with some of the more obscure tracks.

The only problem is that it was made for the American market and doesn't have the original version of Speak To The Sky.

I also supplied the producer with Rick's Mission Magic Cartoon Theme which was dropped from the final layout...such a great song and it sits at the back of my CD collection waiting for commercial release.
