4.0 out of 5 stars Everchanging Masterpiece
I really don't seem to hear a lot of older acts anymore these days in R&B. To me, that is nothing more than a tragedy. Some of those older acts are really much more exciting to listen to right now, because the younger Beyonce''s, and the Britney Spears wannabes have overzellously, oversexed themselves out. 4.0 out of 5 stars Everchanging Masterpiece, June 17, 2004

Still, everlasting change in music is a constant. That was the case with Atlantic Starr in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. They've had as many changes to their lineup as Chicago, Menudo and others have had in a lifetime of a career. Still, the music enough is well really enough to enjoy over and over again from the bottom of the heart.

The Ultimate Collection of Atlantic Starr, is arguably the best out of very much every single Atlantic Starr compilation and record you'll ever need. The album ultimately highlights the constant changes the R&B group endured while keeping the music fresh to all alike. The songs are great from classic ballads like the #1 song Always, which was ranked #50 on VH1's 100 Greatest Love Songs, as well as other great songs like Send For Me, the modern cult R&B song, Love Crazy, the soulful and tearjerking Masterpiece, Touch A Four Leaf Clover, Circles, and many more great songs from their eras with Warner Brothers, A&M, and Reprise as well.

It is just a shame that Atlantic Starr is considered as a guilty pleasure act right now, but the music is still well enough to escape with. I just don't really hear much of their music right now, but I still wish people could rediscover them all over again. The Ultimate Collection of Atlantic Starr is a great Greatest Hits album, and is really worth the soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good but still missing some essentials, May 3, 2004

I was a HUGE Atlantic Starr fan in their heyday. Their music was always smooth, even the uptempo songs. This collection contains some very good cuts including a few rarely heard songs like "Love Crazy", "Masterpiece", "My First Love" and my favorite "More, More, More". However, their most enchanting gem, "Let's Get Closer", is notably missing. Also excluded are the sweet "My Sugar" and the fun, uptempo cut "Think About That". The albums from which these cuts originate are no longer in print or are just plain impossible to find. Even the Millennium Collection doesn't contain much more than this, nor do any of their other collections, so don't waste your time or money. Thank goodness I have some of these songs on cassette single. Oh sure, it doesn't compare to having them on CD but it's better than nothing!

5.0 out of 5 stars CLASSIC ATLANTIC STARR!!!!, September 4, 2004
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
I LIKE THIS GROUP. FIRST, I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE PROPS TO SHARON BRYANT. SHARON IS THE ORIGINAL FEMALE LEAD SINGER OF ATLAANTIC STARR. SHE SINGS VERY WELL AND DID A GOOD JOB OF SINGING JUST AS GOOD AS BARBARA WEATHERS HAD DONE. I LIKE THIS ULTIMATE COLLECTION BUT IT IS MISSING A LOT OF SONGS BUT IT STILL RECEIVES 5 STARS BECAUSE ATLANTIC STARR IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALL-TIME GROUPS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Atlantic Starr is amazing, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
This is an excellent album. It has all of Atlantic Starr's all time greatest songs, especially their love ballads. "Always" and "Masterpiece" are my most favorite. Though overall, each song is awesome and really enjoyable and relaxing to listen to. I highly recommend this Ultimate Collection album by Atlantic Starr!

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for Atlantic Starr, July 14, 2006
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
For all those who enjoy love songs the way I do, this cd is the best. Atlantic Starr has always managed to belt out the most romantic songs, and each and every one of their hits is on this cd. You won't be disappointed! You might need two of them, because you will wear it out!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool!, December 23, 2001
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
Atlantic Starr was the real band back in 80's! From their early tracks such as late 70's funk 'Stand Up' or 'Let's Rock & roll' to 80's super hits uplifting 'Circles','Freak-a-ristic' or 'Love Me Down' with the super slow jams smooth 'Secret LOvers','My First Love' or 'Touch A Four Leaf Clover', this compliation is outstanding. Every Atlantic Starr fan should have it. Sharon Byrant & Lewis Bros. were underrated talents during when they were popular. This cd brings back the memories from good-old-times. A must have!

3.0 out of 5 stars Falls Short in its Promise as the Ultimate Collection, August 5, 2010

the songs are well-chosen, for the most part, but what could have been a great, cross-licensed compilation is undermined by the poor mastering, and some poor choices in choosing edited songs; mastered by Erik Labson, who is one of the worst mastering engineers, his work involves extreme compression, resulting in a loud, brittle sound, that wears on the listener...turn up "secret lovers" on this disc, you can hear static in the background, Labson turned one of the smoothest love songs into a cacophonic mess.."send for me" is edited, the song ends abruptly, and "secret lovers" does, too, so you miss the beautiful instrumental finish...while this compilation includes hits from all of Atlantic Starr's career, the last 2 major hits, "my first love" (#1 R&B, 1989), and "masterpiece" (#3 pop and R&B) are lyrically weak, and musically uninspired...best choice is "secret lovers...best of" on A&M, it sounds much better, and has unedited songs, then round out your collection with "all in the name of love", stay away from this sonic catastrophe

5.0 out of 5 stars The Timeless Generation of Atlantic Starr, January 24, 2005
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
Atlantic Starr has always been someone I grew up on they are more of a R&B/Pop/Soul group with much style and more rhythm into they music. Not to say I'm a huge Atlantic Starr fan for example, it's because I'ma a fanatic AS fan even tho they still my favorites along w/ Kool and the Gang, The Brothers Johnson, Heatwave, Brick, etc. Atlantic Starr has been around for so many decades than they been around 4 a long time. Lemme say this, my biggest influences in the R&B/Funk era were Earth, Wind & The Fire, The JB's and James Brown 'specially others like Parliament and Funkadelic who are also good on my lists. Some of my favorite songs from this group are Love Calls (which was sampled from Mary J. Blige), Always, Send for Me, Circles and If You're Heart Isn't In It. This is highly recommended who wants to hear sum throwback music that takes u back from your early childhood and now. Forget hip-hop/rap 4 a minute and stick into sum old school.
