A fine intro to a legend...,
By Daniel L Edelen (Mt. Orab, OH USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
If you've never once before heard Keith Green, this new collection of some of his better songs - as if there were ANY lesser songs in his impressive portfolio - is a great place to start. That this CD set is reasonably priced and includes a DVD covering the late singer/songwriter's biography makes it a unique combo for those who are green to Green.Keith Green came out of nowhere in the late Seventies and set the Christian music scene on fire. That more than twenty years after his death you can still buy everything he put out is testament to his enduring music and message. His was a contribution to Christianity unseen since his passing. Some considered Keith a prophet, and when compared to the .... music being passed off to the Christian masses today, he indeed seems like John the Baptist on piano. Indeed, many Christian music stations still religiously play Keith's worship songs pieces while routinely avoiding songs like "Asleep in the Light" (included on this collection), "No One Believes In Me Anymore" (actually an anti-Satan song), and "You Love the World (and You're Avoiding Me)". The ministry he founded, Last Days Ministries, still exists and publishes some of Keith's more incendiary tracts and teachings. If you have never heard Keith preach, he's a revelation. This is not to say he's all fire and brimstone. In fact, he brought a lighthearted humor to his music. Case in point: the song "So You Wanna Go Back to Egypt" (included in this collection) is a wickedly funny take on the grumbling that occurred right after the Hebrews' flight from Pharoah's oppression. His vibrant joy streams through the stereo on (included) songs like "He'll Take Care of the Rest" and "You Put This Love in My Heart." More than any other Christian artist, Keith Green touches people in ways rarely seen. I can truly say that his music, even after his death more than twenty years ago in a plane crash, still reaches deep into the soul. There are songs of his I have heard a hundred times and they still bring a tear to my eye. But the best thing that can be said of Keith Green's music is that is made for adults. On songs such as "My Eyes Are Dry" and "Grace By Which I Stand" (included here) he sings as a man who has seen the good and the bad, learning the way of Christ in the deserts of life. It is not simplistic, boring, or stifled theologically. There's more meat in two verses of what Green sings than in entire Christian albums today. You can't hear his music and not be quickened. Some would say that Keith's more contemporary (and strangely enough, also tragically dead at the height of his work) compadre was Rich Mullins. If you like Mullins, then Keith Green is the next step up. Beyond those two (and possibly Larry Norman) there is a gaping hole unfilled on the current Christian music scene. One star has to be kept back, though, since it is possible to purchase the pair of 2-CD "Keith Green: The Ministry Years" CDs that contain everything he ever committed to tape (including a couple bootlegs.) Those four CDs are a revelation. However, let's give that star back since this collection includes a DVD that covers Green's ministry. Call it a wash. If you want music that is joyful, soul-stirring, convicting, and just downright excellent, "The Ultimate Collection" is a great way to grow while enjoying great music at the same time. (Note: I have not seen the DVD. Still, it's icing on the cake and can only help one to understand the man behind the superb musical vision.)

Keith is the real deal,

I was never a "fan" of Keith Green back when he was still on this earth. I didn't dislike his music, but never pursued it beyond second-hand glimpses. I heard Keith, really, for the first time last week, as the CD played in the background while my husband wrote a review for local paper. We then watched the companion DVD and I was hooked as I perceived the passion with which Keith (& Melody) lived. Today I listened to the whole CD again and could listen over and over. Keith's sound is infectiously joyful; but he knows that there's a "time to cry" as well. He sings the true gospel. I'm sorry, but I haven't heard much modern Christian music that compares with this. The church is, as Keith said, "asleep in the light."

A Good CD But Still Lacking...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
The idea of a DVD with Keith Green is a good one, however The Ultimate Collection CD lacks some of Keith's greatest songs. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of Keith Green's: "The Ministry Years" It's well worth the purchase. It's not difficult to put together your own Keith Green Collection, all of his songs were anointed and filled with holy passion. "The Ultimate Collection" however does not live up to its title. The DVD that comes with it is a nice addition for those who interested in getting an in depth view of what Keith nd Melody's ministry was all about. But if your looking for an "Ultimate Collection" of Keiths music try the 2 Disc Keith Green: The Ministry Years...There's "no compromise"

Keith Green - The Best Gospel Singer Ever!,
By
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
I have always been a fan of Keith Green and I have all his albums on vinyl format. I have tried getting each individually on cd format. However, they are all out of stock.
So I was very delighted when the Ultimate Collection came along. Keith was a very unique singer. He sang his songs with passion, wit, and love. Simply put, Keith's music entertains and inspires like no other! The bonus DVD was well presented and I have to admit, it brought me to tears. This man served the Lord well during his time with us and he continues to serve through his legendary music. Keith will always remain a phenomenon, a sensation, and a testament to God's love.

The Best Introduction to the Best Christian Artist,
By
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
If you've never heard the music of Keith Green before, then you are deprived, and you need to go out and buy this cd. It has 20 great Keith Green classics, digitally remastered for the modern era. Keith is a tremendous piano player, and there was a spiritual passion in his life that lit a spark in his musical performances. You can sense that passion on "You Put This Love in My Heart," "Your Love Broke Through, "Asleep in the Light," "Rushing Wind," and "Pledge My head to Heaven." That last song is a beautiful song performed on the piano (with Bob Dylan on harmonica) where Keith declares that his loyalty to the gospel of Jesus Christ is greater than his loyalty to his wife and son. Keith never did anything halfway, and this made him a dynamic Christian musician for the Lord.
I highly recommend this cd as the best place to begin your exploration of Keith Green's Music. After this, I would recommned purchasing The Ministry Years 1977-1979, and The Ministry Years 1980-1982.

This Was When *Music* Mattered in CCM, Not Marketing!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
Few if any current Christian musicians can compare AT ALL with the music of the 70s and 80s, except for some of the old artists still putting out music like Phil Keaggy, Paul Clark, the 77s, and a handful of others. I'm not questioning their ministry but the CCM of today relies more heavily on marketing. In the 70s, it required word of mouth since there were no major marketing dollars available or CCM radio stations that played this music. (It was considered heresy to play this music by many Christian radio stations and churches because it contained the "evil Satanic beat!")Keith Green's music still ministers in the early 2000s as much as it did in the 70s! This is classic music, and Keith can just as easily entertain as he can bring you to tears. The love of Jesus shines through every one of these songs, and the sincerity of a Believer who walked the walk is evident. This music will never lose its power! I hadn't listened to any old CCM in years but started pulling out "the old stuff" like Keith's, 2nd Chapter, Paul Clark, Chuck Girard, Phil Keaggy and Glass Harp, and others. The ability to change a person's heart and turn it towards God again is still there. God truly blessed these early pioneers .. Ministers .. and still anoints their work today. If you have old CCM vinyl like this collecting dust, either digitize it, or better yet, buy this old music on CD. It's worth the investment!

I have always loved Keith Green's music and owned many of his tapes. They were very worn out and I recently looked to replacing them and chose this CD & DVD Collection.
There is such a nice variety of Keith's music on this CD and I highly recommend this - you just can't beat it for the price! What a wonderful uplifting selection of music! I haven't yet watched the DVD so I can't comment on that.

Keith Green-TOTAL inspiration!,
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
Keith Green was an incredible song writer, singer & lover of Christ! He practiced what he preached sort to speak. His hunger & desire for a closer relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ is something I myself could only wish to have. His No compromise attitude it something so many Christians lack today. In close, this DVD & CD tell a story of man after God's own heart! His music will touch your life & make you fall in love with Jesus even MORE as far as I'm concerned! His entire life was a dedication to the Lord......You can't ask for anything more beautiful then that! Do yourself a favor & purchase this!
God Bless~

A Blessing To Own,

This review is from: Ultimate Collection (CD & Dvd) (Audio CD)
I purchased this CD/DVD set for my husband and we just absolutely love Keith Green and his music. I think other reviews have said it best so I'll just give my opinion and say that if you're debating on whether to buy this go ahead and do it. It's a wonderful blessing to hear such love and compassion and truth in his music. Too bad there are not more singers out there that are truly singing to God and praising him.
The DVD is excellent as well. It's a must see and would be great to share with others. |
