Product Description

If you haven't had your Fixx of this great London band in a while, pick this up. This anthology starts with their UK-only singles Lost Plane and Some People , takes you through all their U.S. hits ( Stand or Fall; One Thing Leads to Another; Are We Ourselves?; Secret Separation; Saved by Zero; How Much Is Enough , and more) and wraps up with 1998's Two Different Views . 16 traxx!

Long before the idiom "talk to the hand" entered public discourse, Cy Curnin was singing to his, a melodramatic tic that made Fixx videos and live shows seem pretentious, or at least odd. But beyond their frontman's Bowie affectations, the Fixx showed a consistent pop sensibility that earned them a loyal fan base in the United States, despite little success in their native England. And while early collaborations with producer Rupert Hines may have yielded their best work ("Stand or Fall," "One Thing Leads to Another," "Red Skies," "Saved By Zero"), this generous collection shows the band was capable of cooking up hooks throughout its decade-long run. --Bill Forman

This collection contains pretty much every hit and great album track by the Fixx, including the non-MCA label hits and tracks. It also contains the studio versions of 'Stand or Fall' and 'Red Skies' as opposed to the inferior live versions on the previous collection. The CD also contains a few songs in the single edit form - only a minor distraction if you're used to the album versions. The collection still contains the long version of 'Deeper and Deeper', which is the definitive version. The sound on here is much improved over the '89 collection, without any goofy remixes. If you don't own any Fixx CDs (most are out of print anyway), this is compensation enough. Also comes with great liner notes and peak positions for the songs - great for chart freaks (like me). If you like '80's music, get this CD!

This is the collection Fixx fans have been waiting for! 19 tracks in all! The sound is amazing, and the packaging is great. Adam Woods wrote some cool track by track notes, and there's release date/selection number information on all of the singles. This collection also makes good on the errors of the "Greateat Hits" package from 10 years ago: this collection includes the original versions of "Stand Or Fall" and "Red Skies" from their "Shuttered Room" album; the original Greatest Hits had re-records and/or live versions. Also, many of the songs here are presented in their 7" remix and/or edit form. Plus, the song "Going Overboard" has never been on CD before! It was the b-side to "Saved By Zero." What else do you need to know? "Driven Out" has been out of print for years, and "Two Different Views" is from the very rare "Happy Landings" EP (different from the version on "Elemental.") If you don't own anything by The Fixx, this is a great place to start! And if you are a diehard fan, this includes a lot of collectables that have never been on CD before. Buy it buy it BUY IT!

This compilation surpasses the 1989 Greatest Hits collection that I've had for the past 10 years. Not only are the tracks digitally remastered but there are more tracks. This compilation covers their 1991 and 1997 cds which the previous collection did not. All the great songs are here for those of us who remember who the Fixx were/are. This is a must have for any rock collector.

19 songs. No filler. In a time where most greatest hits packages intentionally leave something out so you still have to purchase back catalog, these guys went for broke and put ALL their best stuff on one disc (I know hardcore fans will argue that fact). Probably the only single disc cd with 12+ songs I own where I can say EVERY SINGLE SONG is awesome. If you dig intelligent 80's brit pop with great songwriting and stellar production, this collection is it. Outstanding.

WOW, a greatest hits package that is just that. Whether you only know "One Thing Leads To Another," and "Saved By Zero," or you know all the words to every song on the now out-of-print "Calm Animals" album, this collection will satisfy the entire spectrum. Let's face it. Few bands in the "Modern Rock Eighties" have been as successful, and as brilliant as The Fixx. I would be hard pressed to come up with a compilation that so elegantly shows the passion and true talent that this band has. All of their albums are represented here (with the exception of the acustic 1011 Woodland album); from 1982's "Shuttered Room," to 1998's "Elemental." Few bands are willing, better yet able, to put out such material from their entire career without a bad song in the lot. Sure, "One Thing Leads To Another" may be the song that broke them into the mainstream here in the states, but this collection proves that that one song was no fluke. Every song shows creativity, inventiveness, but most of all originality. In addition, the musicianship is impeccable-from Adam Woods' playing real drums that sound like a drum machine, to Jamie West-Oram's infectious style of guitar texturing, to Rupert Greenall's tailored keyboards and Cy Curnin's unmistakibly unique vocals, this is one talented band. The "Ultimate" collection is The Fixx at their finest. But, believe it or not, one could easily esemble an "Ultimate" Collection 2, and still have great songs left over. If you're a Fixx fan, you have this disc already, but if you don't, or you just want to have one of the best cross-sections of a band that's as relevant today as they were in 1982, then this is a must-have. You just might be surprised how great this band really is. Here's to Volume 2!

The Fixx helped defined the 80's with a fabulous brand of calculated synth pop combined with the uniqueness of singer Cy Curnin urgent vocal delivery. Sharp, gleaming and cascading guitar work by Jaime West-Oram along with the spacey keyboards of Rupert Greenall completed a very successful formula that propelled this band to stardom. Coming about during the early days of MTV with the all-time great song "Stand Or Fall", the Fixx reached their ultimate peak with their commercially successful "Reach The Beach" album in 1983. The "Ultimate Collection" is an extremely comprehensive collecton of the best material and covers all the bases very nicely. I can think of maybe one or two songs that could have been added (the cool "Precious Stone" off the "Calm Animals" album is one of them) but it is a personal favorite. Anyway, on this remastered edition CD, the clarity and sound is absolutely wonderful. This CD is definitely worth the purchase. Enjoy!
