Biography

Hailing from England, The Fixx has been often heralded as one of the most innovative bands to come out of the MTV era. The style and substance of the band has always created a special connection with its audience. The Fixx’s themes are often complex, introspective and thought-provoking and it’s also been mass appeal with three #1 hits, five in the Top Five, a dozen reaching the ... Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Long before the idiom "talk to the hand" entered public discourse, Cy Curnin was singing to his, a melodramatic tic that made Fixx videos and live shows seem pretentious, or at least odd. But beyond their frontman's Bowie affectations, the Fixx showed a consistent pop sensibility that earned them a loyal fan base in the United States, despite little success in their native England. And while early collaborations with producer Rupert Hines may have yielded their best work ("Stand or Fall," "One Thing Leads to Another," "Red Skies," "Saved By Zero"), this generous collection shows the band was capable of cooking up hooks throughout its decade-long run. --Bill Forman

5.0 out of 5 stars Renders previous 'Greatest Hits' obsolete March 20, 2000
Format:Audio CD
This collection contains pretty much every hit and great album track by the Fixx, including the non-MCA label hits and tracks. It also contains the studio versions of 'Stand or Fall' and 'Red Skies' as opposed to the inferior live versions on the previous collection. The CD also contains a few songs in the single edit form - only a minor distraction if you're used to the album versions. The collection still contains the long version of 'Deeper and Deeper', which is the definitive version. The sound on here is much improved over the '89 collection, without any goofy remixes. If you don't own any Fixx CDs (most are out of print anyway), this is compensation enough. Also comes with great liner notes and peak positions for the songs - great for chart freaks (like me). If you like '80's music, get this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Ultimate Collection" indeed! November 9, 1999
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is the collection Fixx fans have been waiting for! 19 tracks in all! The sound is amazing, and the packaging is great. Adam Woods wrote some cool track by track notes, and there's release date/selection number information on all of the singles. This collection also makes good on the errors of the "Greateat Hits" package from 10 years ago: this collection includes the original versions of "Stand Or Fall" and "Red Skies" from their "Shuttered Room" album; the original Greatest Hits had re-records and/or live versions. Also, many of the songs here are presented in their 7" remix and/or edit form. Plus, the song "Going Overboard" has never been on CD before! It was the b-side to "Saved By Zero." What else do you need to know? "Driven Out" has been out of print for years, and "Two Different Views" is from the very rare "Happy Landings" EP (different from the version on "Elemental.") If you don't own anything by The Fixx, this is a great place to start! And if you are a diehard fan, this includes a lot of collectables that have never been on CD before. Buy it buy it BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Fixx. March 17, 2000
Format:Audio CD
This compilation surpasses the 1989 Greatest Hits collection that I've had for the past 10 years. Not only are the tracks digitally remastered but there are more tracks. This compilation covers their 1991 and 1997 cds which the previous collection did not. All the great songs are here for those of us who remember who the Fixx were/are. This is a must have for any rock collector.

One of my all time favorite bands. They got me through a tough couple of years in my teens. I have been looking for some nostalgic albums and this was top on my list.

5.0 out of 5 stars no question, the 80s were the greatest!
Sometimes it's just hard to imagine the scale of talent there was in the 1980s. The musicianship was simply fantastic, though sadly, this industry today is in dire need of serious... Read more
