The best Jimmy Cliff cd available,
By Aaron (Washington DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
I did a little research before I purchased this cd, and this is definitely the best single disc "best of" cd available for this great reggae artist. All his hits are here and this is a must have for any reggae fan! Every one of the 19 tracks on this album are solid "Vietnam" and "Shelter of Your Love" are two standouts. Buy it and enjoy!

FINALLY- A "VERY BEST OF" FOR ONE OF REGGAE'S FINEST,
By RAE (WEST VIRGINIA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
I MANAGE A MUSIC STORE, SO I GET TO LISTEN TO ALL THERE IS OUT THERE FOR FREE. SO IF I ACTUALLY BREAK OUT THE CASH TO BUY ONE, IT'S WORTH IT. I'M NOT REALLY A REGGAE FAN, BUT I LOVED THE MOVIE "COCKTAIL", WHICH CONTAINS JIMMY'S "SHELTER OF YOUR LOVE". THAT SONG IS NOT ON THE SNDTRK, OR ANY OTHER CD STILL MADE, UNTIL THIS ULTIMATE COLLECTION. I POPPED IT IN THE PLAYER EXPECTING TO FIND TWO SONGS I KNEW, AND WOW. THAT WAS JIMMY..? HE SANG THAT? THERE ARE SONGS ON THERE FOR EVERYONE. FROM THE HARD HITTING "VIETNAM" TO "I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW" TO "WILD WORLD" THIS IS A VERY GOOD SLOW JAM CD. GRAB A BEER, TURN THE LIGHTS DOWN AND PREPARE FOR THAT LIGHT EASY GOING, LAID BACK FEELING TO TAKE OVER. AND I'M TELLING YOU MAN, THESE DAYS WE DON'T ALL GET TO EXPERIENCE THAT FEELING OFTEN. THIS IS A GOOD STRESS RELIEVING CD, BUT IT'S NOT TOO MELLOW, SO IT WON'T PUT YOU TO SLEEP. DEFINITELY WORTH CHECKING OUT. YOU CAN TRUST A PROFESSIONAL OPINION.

A Beautiful Album,
By

This is one of the most uplifting, beautiful music experiences out there. I recommend that anyone with a love of music purchase this album. Even if your not usually a fan of reggae music, this is an incredible album. There is not a song on it that you will want to skip over. I have my favorites, but there are no bad songs to be found here.

The Best of the "Best of" collection,
By Ping Z (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
This is the best of all the best-ofs of Jimmy Cliff. I had his first LP about 1974 and then I kept buying his LPs. Now I replenish them with CDs, because the LPs were mostly worn. But still I have not found the CD for "Unlimited", which is one of my favorite Jimmy Cliff recordings. Anyway, you can't go wrong with this "Ultimate Collection"

I am not a diehard reggae fan, though I enjoy it, but I never tire of this album. It is always fresh, always moving, always inspiring. A classic from beginning to end. I imagine I will be listening to it and still discovering it many years from now.

This guy's a genius!,

Wow! Prepare to be blown away....this is a true masterpiece by a true genius. It's so spiritually uplifting and I'm sorry to re-iterate a fact already mentioned, but "Shelter of your love" (COCKTAIL waterfall scene) is one of the most amazing tunes ever. No kidding, it sends shivers up my spine every time I hear it and er hello, why in the name of Jimmy, is it not on the Cocktail soundtrack?? Personally I would have been prepared to gnaw off my left foot for that song alone!! All the other tracks "rock", especially "U can get it...", "Vietnam" and "I can see clearly now"...

Sunshine reggae,
By Gary Selikow (Great Kush) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
Jimmy Cliff is one of the greatest pioneers of reggae. He is my favourite reggae artist, and his sunshine feel-good is reggae-calypso music in it's best tradition. Reggae evolved from calypso, and one could say that reggae is the rock version of calypso.
This album is one of the most comprehensive collections of his work, and is a collection you have to have. Includes the including the hope-filled song of brotherhood (and sisterhood), WONDERFUL WORLD BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE, the beautiful and haunting MANY RIVERS TO CROSS, the 1960'protest song Vietnam (billed by Bob Dylan as the best protest song ever), Cliff's great cover of the Cat Stevens hit 'Wild World', African drumbeats of BONGO MAN (A COME), the angry The Harder They Come ,the inspirational Sooner Or Later and the equally inspirational You Can Get It If You Really Want , and Cliff's really spectacular cover of the Johnny Nash hit I Can See Clearly Now. This is the definitive greatest hits album of Jimmy Cliff's work, mainly from the 60's and 70's.

This man, Jimmy Cliff, represents to me what reggae should sound like. And it's elegant as well. All the selections on this disc are great examples of really righteous Jamaican tunes from this super-talented musician.

Have quite a few Jimmy Cliff compilations, this one great for a single disc overview of his work. Has the classics as well as several I'd not heard before. Could have included, "Let Your Yeah be Yeah", to round it up to 20 tracks, but that aside, a great cd for chilling out. Particularly enjoy "Majority Rules", "Struggling Man", "If I Follow My Mind", "Sooner Or Later".

A living legend,

Saw Jimmy Cliff live at Raggamuffin Sydney 2011 and this living legend of Reggae is just awesome - although he looks a little younger on this CD which includes his greatest hits.
A must for any party, but just cool to listen to in the car or anywhere for that matter. |
