This CD was my introduction to Luciano. I think he's worth a closer look. There are 2-3 tunes on here that are already some of my all-time favorites..."Cool & Settle" (hypnotic, ominous chanting) and "Red Inna Rome" (KILLER backup vocals!) are outstanding, decidedly different reggae tunes. Not the usual formulaic "pop" reggae crap.Unfortunately there is a little of the latter on this album too. I wish he would be less slick, do away with the synthesizers, stay away from the trite lyrics and too-simple tunes. He would be better served by cutting straight to the bone, and getting some grittier-sounding players. It would suit his songs better. That said, this is still good stuff, I just feel that he has the potential to be an all-time great!

Recently went to see Luciano in concert at HQ Manchester - a fantastic show. Good support acts. Never seen Luciano before and he was incredible -so just had to purchase CD to add to my collection.
Ultimate Collection is a brilliant CD. Cannot say it's Luciano at his best as I would have to say that about all his music. |
