Double-CD of music by under-rated American soul singer,
By
This review is from: Ultimate Collection (Audio CD)
Randy (born Veronica Crawford) is a brilliant American soul singer who had a UK top five hit (Street life) as un-credited vocalist with the Crusaders in 1973, then had two UK top five hits (One day I'll fly away, Almaz) in the eighties as a solo singer. Randy never achieved this level of success in her homeland.
Apart from those three major hits, Randy had two other UK top twenty hits (You might need somebody, Rainy night in Georgia) and several minor hits, all of which are included here, these being Imagine (a live recording), He reminds me, Last night at dance land, Secret combination, Nightline, Give me the night, Diamante (with Zucchero) and One hello. Most of the songs here are originals but, with her outstanding voice, Randy is a great interpreter of other people's songs, as this collection shows with her covers of such classics as Knocking on heaven's door, At last, This old heart of mine and What a difference a day makes as well as Imagine. This comprehensive collection truly is the very best of Randy Crawford, one of the finest soul singers there has ever been.

I love this collection. The "secret combination" of music, lyrics and the great talent of Randy Crawford definitely works for me.

A long time fan of Ms. Crawford, I jumped at the chance to own a compilation of her songs. I listen to this CD practically every day. I listen to it when I am on the railroad; when I am relaxing; when I am doing things; on my way to resting at night. This CD takes me places that my soul needs to go at times and then brings me back. Thank you Ms. Crawford for having become a singer.

Purchased at the request of the significant other for a road trip to Vegas. Good Decision!!, the CD's are great and most are songs you can sing along to. Was not familiar with Ms. Crawford, but will definitely purchase more of her work.

I can't get enough of these two CD's! The first CD opens with Ms. Crawford's signature hit "Streelife". I also LOVE her renditions of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Who's Crying Now" better than either of the originals! For me, there is only one song missing from this collection, Prince's "Purple Rain", I know she has performed this song live and would've loved for one of those to be recorded for this CD collection. But other than that, this ultimate collection is a must have for any music lover!

This is a great CD from a little known (at least in the US) singer. Wonderful range of songs from the blues and soft jazz to disco. You have probably heard her on the radio but didn't know who it was. I fell in love with her music when the movie "Sharkey's Machine" came out and "Street Life" was the opening theme. Sit back and enjoy.

Best of Collection falls short, though comprehensive.,

What I the about Best of collections is that there are always hits that are left off. In this case "Wrap U Up" and "I Don't Feel Much Like Crying" are left off. Both made the top 20 on the R&B charts. Also, there are contributions from some of Randy's best cds that re also missing. Try "Secret Combination," "Windsong,", "Nightline," and her cd full of covers including the excellet "Forget Me Nots" and "Come Into My Life."
