Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

YA?A breezy survey of much that college-bound students will find new or different. "College is a series of choices," from what clothes to bring to whether to have sex or not and the authors?a father and daughter team?hope this book will serve as a guide. The format makes browsing easy and inviting, and sidebars provide synopses of the text. Additionally, there are comments from recent graduates from many types of schools. The advice is practical and well stated.

I was looking for a book for my nephew to use when he went away to college. This book caught my eye because it had all of the useful topics I could think of in the index. Then I saw on the front cover that the New York Times had called the book "Outstanding." That caught my eye. I looked at the other books on the same topic and chose this one for its usefulness and penetrating analyses of any possible problems a college student could have from personal safety to surviving his classes. I think this book is a great find, especially for college freshmen. My nephew says he has gotten lots of good advice from the book.

Of all the college survival books I have read this is the best! It is the most in-depth, and it is a must-have for any incoming college freshman. It contains many helpful chapters like how to take a test, how to take good notes, how to study well, the professor hierarchy, getting along with your roomie, and time management skills. It was my favorite, and it might become yours as well.

I bought my first copy of this book based upon a review in the New York Times before starting college, and used it as my bible. It is funny, well laid-out, and practical without being preachy. I continue to buy copies for friends and family as gifts: all of the other books I have seen sound like they were written by guidance counselors or something. This is like student to student.

Who gets excited about a book for graduation? I did! This book has all kinds of tips--from roomates, fighting the freshman "10", to the $5 date. I love the stories in the margins. I think I know some of those people. Thanks to this book, I will Survive!

Yes indeed, this book is great for that incoming freshman who has no clue of what to do. It has good insight on college life and deals with subjects like sex and alcohol. The book is a great gift for that student who is going away to college. I couldn't put it down.
I hope this helps Peace:o>
