THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION - PURE ENERGY...!,
By SCL (Ostrander, OHIO) - See all my reviews

OK EVERYBODY, this is the ultimate diva collection, all tracks are dance mixes, and the sticker on the cover says "rare and classic remix" and it is correct! this is aother cd from the arista records ultimate dance collection. i was doubting it when i bought it, then i got home and put it in the stereo and it was the hottest thing i had ever heard. it contains classic remixes of songs from hex hector & mac qualye (HQ2), junior vasquez, the drty rotton scoundrals, & many more. also includes new songs from blu cantrell, toni braxto, and the new so called club anthem by witney houston off her new cd "whitney" love that man, the track list goes like this:1. ARETHA FRANKLIN - a deeper love (c + c tribesmen mix) i love all the songs soooooo much, but the best ones ae:

This is a great collection of Divas. Aretha, Whitney and Toni among others. They are so famous you don't even need last names. I remember when you had to buy a remix single and pay $7-10. Now you get 15 remixes on one CD. The reason this CD doesn't get 5 stars is that every song sounds remixed. Dido's ThankYou doesn't sound like the ThankYou I've loved. It has a great dance beat but I hardly recognize the song. My favorite mixes are Pink's "You Make Me Sick" and Taylor Dayne's "Tell It To My Heart". Don't buy this CD if you think your're getting the original songs but if you are a fan of dance music then this is a great CD.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. When something is advertised as a "mix" compilation, I expect the mixes to be longer than four minutes. If you're looking for length, forget this CD. The only track I actually liked was the one done by Aretha Franklin. The others seem like really cheesy and feeble disco attempts. Nothing else sticks out; nothing else rises to any level of expectations. Whoever mixed this CD managed to take some great artists and make them sound VERY mediocre.Divas NEVER have track listings of barely over three minutes. It's an insult to them and an insult to the buyer. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Grandes Dames of Dance Music,

There are divas and there are divas. I remember reading reviews of one of those VH1 Divas concerts (I believe it was the second, the one that featured Aretha), all pretty much saying that Sister Ree pretty much blew everybody else (i.e. all those pseudo-divas) right off the stage. But is Aretha a DANCE diva. I'm not an expert, but dance tracks may or may not be vocal tour de forces. The Queen of Soul's sole track on this compilation, "A Deeper Love," is a pretty good dance re-mix, and Aretha is in fine form vocally, but even though she is give the honor of leading off the collection, it really is only one of many good tracks. In other words, being THE Diva on stage may still only make you one of many deities on the dance floor. Which is not to say that Aretha or any other big voiced singer (Deborah Cox and Blu Cantrell come to mind from this collection) is done a disservice by being included in a dance remix album. Far from it, remixes give any singer another forum in which to be showcased. And most of these tracks do show off their vocalists to pretty good effect. I always used to think that Remixes were just for the dance floor--and for completist fans of given artist. A Dido fan might feel s/he simply MUST by this collection for the Deep Dish REmix version of "Thank You." That wouldn't be me, but as someone who liked Dido's first album quite a bit, I can't say that I'm unhappy to have this track included on this record. Same with the Annie Lennox cut. I've always liked "No More 'I Love You's'," and while I wouldn't necessarily rush out and buy the remix as a single, it's a treat to have the Junior Vasquez treatment on this release. It's incorporation of "Take Me to the River" is a brilliant stroke. Bottom Line: Lots of good stuff here. Well worth checking out.

music for the diva's soul,

This CD is like the diva's soundtrack, containing tracks from some of the most successful, most well known female artists with the most powerful of voices.Divas have been known for their attitude, and this CD is nothing but... My favorites being "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" by Whitney Houston, and "Hit the Freeway" by Toni Braxton, both being amazingly remixed to a faster, more funner beat. This album is guaranteed to get your heart thumping. |
