Mixed Reviews,
By Alyssa Davis (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Dance Party 2000 (Audio CD)
This CD wasn't bad. It just wasn't especially good. I was hoping it would be more, but it's supposed to be made for the mainstream enjoying public. I bought this CD mainly for the song I'll fly with you, by Gigi D'Agostino (which was unfortunately the 3 minute version instead of the 7 minute version) and after listening to that, the whole CD went downhill. There were some highlights though, specifically Gigi D'Agostino, I'll fly with you, Moby's Bodyrock, and Sun is Shining, well maybe because both Bob Marley and ATB are amazing. BT tried very galantly to turn Sarah Mclachlan's 'I love you' into a dance song, but still the album wasn't very good. If you enjoy boring mainstream music such as bad remixes of TLC 'Unpretty' and Pink 'There you go' then this album is for you. But if you strive for something more danceable, something that has some club influence, with good beats and some trance undertones, then skip this CD and look for something better.

Ultimate Dance Party just got a lot poppier . . .,
By "jshippo2001" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Dance Party 2000 (Audio CD)
The previous Ultimate Dance Parties mainly included the years best acts in euro-dance, electronica and hip-hop such as Amber, Quad City DJs and Gina G. Now we get songs by Santana, TLC and Sarah McLachlan. The songs actually do sound good in remix form, but I feel this is the weakest Ultimate Dance Party as it does not have a lot of true dance music. If you like more mainstream radio and you want to have a party, you'll LOVE this CD. If you wanted something like Ultimate Dance Party 97 or 98 don't buy this. You'll be very dissapointed.

Sounds like a better UDP than ever before!,

A lot of the previous Ultimate Dance Party CDs have been more Party than Dance, with a lot of rap and alterna-pop tracks. This time around it appears that the folks at Arista realized that they have a slew of FABULOUS remixes on their hands, and it's about time that they release them! The most notable absence on this collection is one of the biggest crossover dance hits in history--Thunderpuss 2000's remix of Whitney Houston's "It's Not Right, But It's OK". However, as you can see, the Club 69 version is here. The collection starts out with my favorite song of the past 2 years, "Sexual (LI DA DI)" by Amber. The beat goes down for La Rissa's bisexual-tinged hit "I Do Both Jay and Jane," then picks back up for the unreleased Hani mix of Pink's "There You Go." These club-ready tracks are perfect for the average listener because they already know most of these songs, just not in these forms. (112's "Anywhere," TLC's "Unpretty," Santana "Maria Maria," etc.) The UDP series, however, is not "mixed" like other DJ compilations are. That's OK, because the beat never stops. The most exciting thing about this collection, though, is the fact that there are a lot of new and unheard of artists on this collection. Before, the closest you would get to unheard of was one of those dance/Top 40 hits that everyone knows, but doesn't know who sings it. Anyone heard of Gigi D'agostino, Phats and Small, Catapila, Beth Orton? You will soon enough! Their inclusion on this collection proves that Arista is finally 100% committed to dance. Let's get more of these compilations out there!

I just can't get enough, some good cuts!,
This review is from: Ultimate Dance Party 2000 (Audio CD)
I bought this c.d. because I own the previouse three, and I must say that this is the best, it is slammin. I listen to it all the time, my favorite cut on the c.d. came to a surprise. Sarah Mclachan's "I Love You", totaly possesse me. Debrah Cox mixed is the bomb as always. PSB's "New York City Boys", is slammin. All the cuts are dope, even Tlc's and Santana's. Good c.d. to either start or end any party with a ULTIMATE BANG!

Move on, there's so much better to spend your money on...,

Let's face it, Ultimate Dance Party was never really that great... but at least before, its' content was decent. I've got to say that this CD lacks in any originality. Most of the songs on this album are remixes of random radio hits... and while some remixes are good... the ones on this CD aren't. If you're into pop and r&b hits that are cheesily remixed, then this is your CD. If you're into true club music with energy and originality, it's in your best interest to shy away from the Ultimate Dance Party series, and 2000 is no exception.

Upbeat, makes you wanna get up and dance,

Everytime I buy a compilation cd of dance songs, all i usually find are the everyday songs i hear on the radio, only remixed. This CD has songs ive never heard that are so good, i have them on repeat on my player. Anyone who likes to dance in your room with your friends to great music should definitly consider this CD.

And I'm afraid that's the case here. This was a great CD when it first came out, but by now Time has passed these tracks by... really only worth the investment if you are chronicling or collecting past hits. Otherwise, stick with something more contemporary.

Surprise Treats on Great Dance Compilation,
By
This review is from: Ultimate Dance Party 2000 (Audio CD)
"Ultimate Dance Party 2000" takes up where the bangin' "Ultimate Dance Party 1999" left off, and actually picks up steam as it does. The usual suspects from the BMG/Arista roster turn up with compressed dance mixes of their recent hits, e.g., Whitney Houston, Santana with Product G&B, Pet Shop Boys, Deborah Cox, TLC, 112, Amber and the red-hot Pink. All their tracks are familiar and welcome in their radio-ready remixes. It is the less familiar songs and artists that pack the real wallop here and provide the surprise treats that bring me back to this compilation again and again. There's La Rissa's cotton candy take on bisexuality, "I Do Both Jay and Jane," Shannon's smart retooling of her 80s hit "Give Me Tonight," Simply Red's joyous "Ain't That A Lot of Love," Bob Marley's ecstatic "Sun Is Shining," and essential cuts from Moby, Beth Orton, Andrea Martin and even, who would of thought it, Sarah MacLachlan. These are the songs that weren't played to death on the radio, the ones you heard shopping in clothes stores, walking past bodegas and coffee bars, the jams that you half-heard as you entered a club on a swoony summer night or a rainy autumn evening, the ones that perked up your ears and settled gently in the back of your mind to be re-discovered here. Hearing them together is like experiencing them for the first time, because many of them you will not have really listened to before. Another great addition to the Ultimate series.

NOT THE SONGS YOU HEAR ON THE RADIO!,
By Rebecca (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Dance Party 2000 (Audio CD)
The ULTIMATE DANCE PARTY should be called the WORST DANCE PARTY. I've never even heard half the songs on this CD. Even the songs I like on this CD is not enough to give it 2 stars. The only songs I recommend on this CD are "Sexual" Amber, "There You Go" Pink, "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" Whitney, "Unpretty" TLC, and "Maria, Maria" Santana. But even most of these songs are remixes and the remixes on this CD are really bad, for the most part. Half the songs on this CD have never been played on the radio (or maybe they have, and I'm just not listening to the right radio stations). But whatever, you shouldn't waste your money on this....
