Handy and motivating,

I am now in week 7 of using this journal and it has been a helpful handy tool. For a few weeks before that, I had been tracking my food intake online, but it was cumbersome to look up each food in the database, sift through the (sometimes irrelavant) results, each time I had a quick snack. I much prefer to quickly jot it down the old-fashioned way, on paper.
One of the neat features is that each day's log has 2 columns for tracking "areas of focus." You decide which things are important for you to track: is it overall calorie intake, or fiber, or fat, or servings of fruits and veggies? And there is a helpful section at the front of the journal to help in your initial assessment to set personal goals and areas of focus. I flipped through a number of journals on the shelf at Borders before selecting this one, and I am very happy with my choice.

I really do believe keeping a log helps you while dieting, but I've tried three or four other logs over the years, and I always quit after a couple weeks. Tracking all the info gets so tedious! But this log's five-day inventory has helped me figure out just what areas I need to focus on so I'm not wasting my time counting calories or fat grams or other things that just aren't relevant to the way I eat and my problem areas (I admit it: sugar intake and too much snacking since I'm home all day with the fridge). Plus, the log has just made me feel a lot less overwhelmed. Instead of completely overhauling my eating, I'm just focusing on a couple things. It's also helped me identify issues that I wasn't aware of -- fiber intake, for example. The layout is great -- really easy to use. And every page has a factoid that's always either entertaining or informative. A month into it, I feel like I've finally found the right fit with this diet log -- and my clothes are fitting a lot better, too!

In a market that is saturated with diet tips, tricks and journals The Ultimate Diet Log stands out. It is is easy to keep track of, fun to write in and easy to read.
I purchased UDL after flipping through each diet journal Barnes and Noble offered in the store. The UDL was the only one with flexibility in meal times, an exercise log and tons of pertinent information.

I have been journaling my food for the past 7 years. In that time I have used 3 different brands of journal. I found that they all had great features but none had everything I would want in a journal.
Now that I have used The Ultimate Diet Log for almost 2 months, I can say that it has a lot of the features I love. It also has features that I have not used before (though I may eventually try them), such as an indication of hunger or fullness at each meal and an indication of how you are doing with your goals on a daily basis. If, like me, you are used a journal that allows you to record data for a year, you should know that this is only a 26-week journal. It is as thick as (and perhaps even thicker than) the 52-week journals I've used, but it begins with 83 pages of text on how to use the log and how to focus on priority areas in your goals. I've uploaded photos of actual log pages so you can see what each page includes. Each day is split into segments for breakfast, snack, lunch, snack and dinner. Each page has a (too small for me) box to record exercise and a daily wrap up. My favorite feature of the daily wrap up is "Success of the Day." I often use this space to give myself kudos when I made a meal at home when I really wanted to call for pizza or go out to eat, or when I have made a baby step toward a new habit. Most pages also include a food, nutrition or fitness tip or fact. At the end of each week, there is a whole page for weekly wrap-up. This is a great place to reflect on your week and note what went well and what didn't, what insights you gained as a result, and how you plan to do it next week. Love this! I bought this journal (after looking at about a dozen others) when I discovered that the journal I'd been using for most of the past 7 years was no longer available in spiral-bound form. I find the binding important to be able to let it lie flat on my bathroom counter so I am prompted to enter data regularly. I recommend this journal to those who journal their food, exercise, goals, etc.

The Ultimate Diet Log is a good, standard, entry log for keeping track of what you eat daily. Ultimate? No, but it is practical. While I didn't want a pocket journal for food intake, I did want something easy to use and portable too. The journal's wire-bound spine caught on clothes and was cumbersome to keep up with. A plastic comb-style would probably be better since there are so many pages. Mine was ready for the trash by the time I got to the end of the journal. It does have wonderful research facts about food and the layout is straight-forward and clear. I was able to lose weight and see where I needed to improve in eating and workouts.

I found the diet log extremely motivating, encouraging, and filled with tips and suggestions as to how to track down what I eat, and improve my dietary habits. I think it's a must for every serious dieter, or anyone who has a goal in a particular area as far as eating habits are concerned. I sometimes don't write down what I ate, but the log beckons me to try again. Also, the evaluation questions at the end of each week are very helpful.

I bought this when I came online to buy the Ultimate Workout Log - both are exactly what I want. Each one makes you think about different things - set different goals - re-evaluate each week, and gives you plenty of space to track. The diet log can easily be used the way it was written, or else for WW and using points. One good thing is that it makes you track your hunger and fullness at the beginning and end of each meal/snack - long before WW started doing it. It's a great tool to help lose weight, and after the weight is lost, it'll help you see what worked, and what didn't.

I bought this when I was just shy of 3 months pregnant to use as a pregnancy food log. It was the closest thing I thought might work from the reviews and the way the about talked when I looked it up. It is set up wonderfully for this use. I really like that it has the blank collumns so that I can use those for what I need to track, rather then trying to fit it in around what they think I should track. It is geared towards weight loss, but that's been fine because I've just used those sections of the pages to track healthy weight gain =) This has been super easy to use on a daily basis and I will probably buy another one to use once baby comes and I begin my healthy baby weight loss journey =)

I am enjoying the use of this journal. I wanted something that would allow me to track whatever I wanted to track, not just the standard calorie count. I have to watch sugar and must not exceed a certain amount of quality carbohydrates and this journal allows me to track grams of sugar and servings of carbs very easily. I love that I can put my exercise in as well. The other great thing about this journal is the good, thought provoking questions it presents. This has helped me to tune into some of my more destructive behaviors and make changes based on the new insight gained. The only reason I didn't give the journal a 5 star rating is that I was annoyed by all of the "discovery" pages in the beginning. For me, I knew exactly what my eating problem is (sugar) and I have a plan to cover this. They are probably more useful to someone who has not a clue where to begin.
Overall, this is a good tool. Note to the authors: Well done! |
