1. Use of the meter wasn't as obvious as I'd expected, and the directions are terrible. I'd expected precise instructions for a blood procedure, but the enclosed directions were cursory and in such small print that I literally had to get a magnifying glass. I finally called the number on the box and they mailed me the user's manual (for free). Also, you're told to not reuse the test strip, but it fails to tell you that the lancet must also be discarded after use.
2. The device's marketing line is that it's very simple and needs only a small blood sample. Both are correct, but it took me several tries before I got it right. Several times I either had to squeeze out more blood or made a second finger prick.
(UPDATE: After a little experience, this problem went away. I'm very happy with it.)

3. The meter is cheap, so the manufacturer makes its profit by selling additional test strips and lancets. The basic kit contains only enough for 10 tests. A refill for an additional 100 costs about the same as the meter itself.
4. The device, and especially the additional test strips and lancets, are actually cheaper to order from the manufacturer than from Amazon- one of the very few cases where I've encountered that. I just ordered a set of refills from the VIPCares website.

This meter is so simple to use. It's extremely fast (8 seconds) and accurate. The best part is the great price. Most companies offer free meters but then charge a lot for strips. The strips for this meters is cheap and now I am checking my glucose levels 3 times a day like the doctor recommended. It used to cost me so much money with my other meter in strips so I was only checking my levels 1-2 times a day. I love that it is simple to use without all these complicated fuctions. It's quick and easy.
