5.0 out of 5 stars Protecting my expensive knives.
I buy very expensive global knives. I also often cook at my friend's houses. I carry my knives with me and I dont want the edge dinged. These cheap covers have been great. I dont even use the $50 knife carrier. You can also use these to leave your knives loose in a drawer. Leaving your knives without the cover in your drawer will destroy the blade quickly.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great for my Victorinox Santoku, next to impossible for my Chicago Cutlery fillet knife
Title pretty much sums it up. I purchased this set for two newly purchased knives:
1. R.H. Forschner Victorinox Santoku, 7"
2. Chicago Cutlery Fillet knife, 7.5"

The 8" Chef's Saver fits my Santoku like a glove. The 8" Carver Saver requires a noticeable amount of effort to seat the blade properly in the cover. If the knives you are intending to...

If the knives you are intending to use these Savers for are wider than normal, you may have some difficulty seating them. If they are slim like the Santoku I have, this Saver set is perfect.

PROS:
1. Designed to fit almost any type of knife that you own; based on length.

CONS:
1. I wish the plastic would have been a bit more flexible.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for knife storage, February 4, 2006

I ordered these because I have a few knives that did not come with sleeves so they get banged around in the drawer. I really only needed the larger sleeve (8" chef knife) but could only buy these as a set. These work well but I wish the set had more of the larger sleeve (for the 8" chef knife) and less of the smaller sleeves.

Personally, I find these knife savers to be very snug-fitting, which I suppose is better for safety reasons. I just don't like it when my knives cut into the plastic on the other end. It seems like these things will end up doing some minor damage to my knives' edges if I'm not particularly careful about how I slip these things on. Although they are more expensive, I prefer the LamsonSharp KnifeSafes: LamsonSharp KnifeSafes Knife Blade Protectors, Set of 4. They come in various sizes (bonus: this set contains a 10-inch model, which will actually fit my $300 10-inch chef's knife. The blade saver only has an 8-inch or a 9-inch model, which is too short). Additionally, the LamsonSharp knife protectors pinch your knife between two rubber nubs to ensure that the blade remains suspended in air -- this way, you don't accidentally damage the edge of the knife. Additionally, you can actually wash these in case they get dirty. This is not so with the Blade Savers -- you cannot wash the insides of those at all.

We had a piece of cardboard , wrapped with tape, around our knives. These were not much better. They were really cheap plastic- cheap quality. Would not recommend - esp. for the price.

Unlike some inexpensive sleeves, these plastic protectors slide snugly over the honed edge of the blade and give really good protection from banging around in a drawer. I would have preferred another 8" sheath and one less paring knife but the set is great anyway.

These blade savers are high quality and reasonably priced. I've paid more for less from so called specialty stores. Nothing beats a blade saver for keeping knives sharp and clean in the clutter of a utensil drawer

I purchased these to cover the blades of my Global kitchen knives. The plastic is sturdy and the covers slip snugly over the blades, allowing me to put my razor-sharp Globals in the drawer without ever worrying about injury. I have a knife cover from a different company that is of a slightly more substantial plastic, but that single large knife cover was $4.50, which makes this comparable set a terrific deal.

These things are awesome. They protect you and your knives when you store them. The first 2 or so times you put the knives in the sheaths, the fit is gonna be a little tight, and you'll have to spend 10 or so seconds making sure the whole thing get's in there; but after that, the sheath will "give" and the knives will go in effortlessly. 5 stars.

I am a personal chef, and regularly take my knives with me on my cooking jobs. I have a travel case for my knives, but these "blade savers" really help make sure that my knife blades are protected during transport. I wouldn't leave home without them!
