2.0 out of 5 stars Not that great
I am a fan of MMA and this video isn't that great. Some clips are jsut too short and the knock outs not that exciting. I kind of prefer to watch an entire fight. If you want to see 20 second one punch knockouts this is the video for you.

I'm just now starting to gain my bearings in the MMA world, and found Ultimate Knockouts a welcome introduction to a lot of UFC's past and present stars, not to mention an entertaining two hours of action. While there are very few matches in their entirety in either part, (naturally, excluding the fights that last a minute or less) most chapters pick up a full minute or two before the actual knockout itself and as such provide a solid, albeit brief, backstory to each face-off. You've generally got enough time to gather, both from the announcers' descriptions and from the fighters' conditions, where the fight has been and what kind of an impact the big knockout is packing, just before the fight comes to its explosive conclusion.

Part one is packed, start to finish, with uninterrupted fight footage. Each chapter is immediately preceded by a quick screen that names the competing fighters, but you're on your own to tell them apart if you're a fresh fan as I was. Once a fight ends, the coverage sticks around for a few minutes, presenting the announcers' immediate reactions, the winning fighter's celebration and a few replays, before jumping headlong into the next fight. It's a bit dizzying, really, as you're never given any indication of when and where each fight took place... you just madly fly from arena to arena, sometimes jumping into the middle of a brawl-in-progress, sometimes watching the ref's instructions. In the end, though, you're left hungry for more... the disc does its job and delivers the goods without hesitation.

Part two takes a little more time introducing each fight, as lead announcer Mike Goldberg and legendary fighter Chuck Liddell chat briefly about the fighters, the timeframe of the event, and the strategy that led to each victory or defeat. Liddell doesn't really look like he wants to be there, and Goldberg often has to drag a response out of him, but the interludes are kept short and give viewers the chance to catch their breath between sets of KOs that was missing from the first volume. Probably my favorite aspect of the second chapter is the inclusion of a timeframe for each fight, along with the choice to include knockouts from the earliest UFC events right alongside the beatdowns of today. By working their way up from the second and third UFC events to the present day, (or, rather, present day at the time of the disc's release) you really get a good idea of the path UFC as a whole has walked and how the sport itself has evolved since it was first conceived.

Interestingly enough, there seems to be no shortage of great material here. Part one is chock full of great fights and thrilling knockouts, and part two is more of the same. The quality never wavers, and I'm intrigued to see if they managed to stretch the concept through to part three without slowing down or padding it with weak footage. Worth a serious look, whether you're an MMA rookie looking for a primer or a longtime fan who wants to remember.

This disk is exactly what it says. As a UFC fan, I would have
preferred a finishing moves disk instead of just knockouts.
The UFC forum has a great variety of fighters and fighting styles. These knockouts are spot on! However, there are just too darn many punching knockouts. Those that weren't just boxing-style knockouts were far more interesting. Worthy examples were Merk Kerr's "knee to the head" knockout and
Remco's (?) "elbows to the head knockout" from an arm hold position and two knockouts by takedown. I REALLY wanted to see Frank Shamrock's rapid submissions , UFC 1 finishing kick from the French kickboxer to the big Hawaiian dude (knocked his teeth out), some of and Keith Hackney's bout with the 606 lb black sumo fellow. I don't think that
either of the last two are on the UFC hits DVDs either.
I wonder why.

Anyway, if you're a fight fan, you should own this set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great UFC Compilation DVD..., May 30, 2004
This review is from: Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) - Ultimate Knockouts 1 & 2 (DVD)
Knockouts and lots of them...sure they are missing a few classic knockouts on here. But this DVD has more later UFC knockouts, why put all the stuff thats already on the UFC Hits DVDs. This covers UFC 2 to UFC 39. The "Ultimate Knockouts 2" portion of the DVD has in between fight/knockout introductions with Mike Goldberg and Chuck Liddel. The digital video/audio quality is also better then the UFC Hits DVDS. No Extras. This or UFC Hits Volume 1 is a great place for new fans of MMA to start as well. Highly Recommended

4.0 out of 5 stars Delivers what the title says!, February 7, 2004
This review is from: Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) - Ultimate Knockouts 1 & 2 (DVD)
If your interest is only the KO in the world of UFC, this is the DVD for you.

As a fan of the "sport", I guess I expected more full-length skirmishes, although there is no false advertising; the disc contains two hours of KO's, and that's all.

And, man, are they "on the money"!

I'm not a big fan of the UKO DVDs, but that is only because I buy all of the UFC events. So I already have all the fights contained within. But if you are someone who does not buy all the events and you want some of the best knockouts in UFC history, you can't go wrong purchasing this item.

If you like to see people get knocked out, this is your dvd. Only warning: you only need to get one volume of ultimate knockouts, if you get all three like I did you will notice a lot of repeats
