Editorial Reviews

UFC 49:
August 21, 2004 - Randy Couture has unfinished business to settle with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort. At UFC 46, Couture lost his title to Belfort when the bout was halted due to a cut less than a minute into the fight. The third battle between the two warriors will settle the dispute once and for all.

In another feature bout, top Light Heavyweight contender Chuck Liddell puts his pending title shot on the line to settle long-standing grudge with Lion's Den fighter Vernon "Tiger" White. The star-studded undercard features many top rising young MMA stars, including David Terrell, Yves Edwards, Josh Thomson, Justin Eilers, Karo Parisyan, and Nick Diaz. Live event had over 12,000 in attendance at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

UFC 50:
October 22, 2004 - Tito Ortiz outlasted previously unbeaten Patrick Cote winning a unanimous decision, in three rounds. Matt Hughes captured the UFC World Welterweight Championship belt for a record sixth time by defeating Georges St. Pierre with a swift move, jumping across the downed St. Pierre, grabbing his right arm and extending it into an arm bar to bring an immediate tap out by the former undefeated opponent at 4:59 of the first round.

The undercard features Rich Franklin, Jorge Rivera, Frank Trigg, Renato Verissimo, Evan Tanner, Robbie Lawler, Ivan Salaverry, Tony Frylund, Travis Lutter and Marvin Eastman. A Total of 7 exciting fights.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mis-labeled Disc for UFC 49, July 30, 2009
By
RMP (Kansas City, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Fighting Championship, Vol. 49 and 50: Unfinished Business/The War of '04 (DVD)
This review is for the physical product itself and not the content. I received my copy and there were 2 copies of the UFC 50 disc inside, so I returned it. When I got the replacement it also had two discs with the UFC 50 label. Instead of sending it back this time, I put them in the player to check if it was just the label, and the first one is in fact the DVD for UFC 49 but was just mis-labeled. I guess there must be a batch of these that went out with the wrong label printed on the discs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with 2 for 1, March 17, 2009

Possible spoilers ahead
UFC 49
First off another reviewer is wrong, the fight where Couture gets a cut really fast is UFC 46: Supernatural. Not this event. That's why there is unfinished business as Randy Couture looks to get his belt back.

UFC 50
BJ Penn left the UFC to fight in K1, so the UFC needs to establish a new champion. Matt Hughes, the most dominant WW Champ to this day (unless GSP can cement a legacy with more defenses), faces off against a young Georges St.Pierre. Also Tito Ortiz was scheduled to face off against Guy Mezger in their third battle, but Mezger had a stroke, so Patrick Cote steps up from the preliminary bout to fight Ortiz. This was a good move on Patrick's part that gained him a lot of respect.

Both events contain great fights and you can't go wrong with any MMA purchase if you are an MMA fan. Support the sport.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bit of a let down, November 16, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ultimate Fighting Championship, Vol. 49 and 50: Unfinished Business/The War of '04 (DVD)
I bought this for the Couture/Belfort fight. Big mistake. The fight gets stopped due to an accidental cut to Randy's eye. There, I just saved you 20$.
