5.0 out of 5 stars Author knows what she's talking about
The author really did an excellent job here. She figured out a sensible method for stocking up on home storage foods, and then gives recipes to use for each stage of stocking up. The recipes are reliable, they work every time. There are lots of basic recipes too, including a wealth of information on Sour Dough. The recipes are based on basic foods like wheat, rice,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the beginner & experienced alike
Great book for being able to actually use what you store. Great for a beginner, each chapter has a shopping list and recipes that only use the shopping list items (and those from previous chapters). Included are details on how to make bread, cheese, etc. One of my favorite parts is charts for substitutions, reconstitions, and sprouting.

The recipes are reliable, they work every time. There are lots of basic recipes too, including a wealth of information on Sour Dough. Very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, very comprehensive., September 9, 2008

This is the perfect book for both beginners and experts. Not only does it contain good recipes (surprisingly good for food storage items!) but it tells how to store food, what to buy when you're starting out, and how to prepare it well. The recipes are also very diverse, ranging from basic wheat bread and dehydrated foods to more advanced desserts and beverages. Highly recommended.

With all the natural disasters occurring lately, there is no doubt that we need to be prepared. I saw in the news just yesterday when they were talking about the tsunami in Japan, how the shelves were empty and people were having to rely on the food they had at home. So what do you do if the cookbooks you have require items that you don't have in your food storage?

That's why you need this cookbook! Every recipe in the book uses only the items you will have available in your food storage. Everything is clearly presented so that you know step-by-step what you need to build up your food storage. I was amazed at some of the things you can make using just food storage -- orange rolls, pineapple upside down cake, barbecued beef sandwiches, chicken and corn chowder, glazed sweet potatoes -- just to name a few!

You can tell that she is truly an expert. She says she has been doing this for 30 years and these are obviously tried and true recipes she has used with her own family. I highly recommend this book.

This book is loaded with information about what foods to store and how to store it. There are about 200 recipes that actually use the things you have in your food storage. There are charts to help you with substitutions and how to use spices. The author promises that if you follow the book exactly and store what is suggested that you will not have to go back to the store to prepare any of the recipes in the book.

I did not and will not purchase this book. Anyone that is that clueless on how to cook is hopeless. $80.00 for a used book? I have enough intellegence to figure out what to do with storage food without spending that kind of money on a used book. If I were that stupid, I at least have the sense to google it.
