Not 'great', but not bad either, December 13, 2011
This review is from: Ultimate Force [Region 2] (DVD)
Ultimate Force is a British ITV television series about the SAS, the UK version of our Delta/Special Forces. Being from the UK this series is region 2 and won't play on American DVD players. I discovered quite accidently tho, that my Acer laptop can play region II discs because the region code on the computer can be changed to II and back to I if need be. So I took a chance and bought this series and it plays just fine on my computer--won't play on my TV. So how about the show? Well, its good--but not great and that is plenty acceptable to me. The US equivilant to this show "The Unit" has better action sequences, but it also comes with a lot of 'soap opera, cheating spouse' stuff that you may not like--I could do without it--but I still like that show. Ultimate Force S-1 features the 6 main characters going out on SAS 'missions', some foreign, some domestic, always leading to explosions and shootouts, and then the 'boys' winding up back home in the pub. The characters aren't fully developed in season 1 and the acting is a little wooden but your not watching this kind of show for elaborate character 'back stories', this is a drama about Special Forces soldiers--they kill bad guys for a living. Chris Ryan the ex-SAS soldier (Bravo Two Zero) was involved in this show and that's a good thing cause without his technical advice this show would probably be laughable. Ultimate Force was his first 'run thru' of a series about the SAS I guess because now we have "Strike Force" on ITV. "Strike Force" (also available on Amazon, also region II)is the 'second coming' of Ultimate Force you could say because its also about the SAS and stars Richard Armetage & Andrew Lincoln. I have that show, watch it on my laptop as well, have reviewed that show, and it is TERRIFIC!
So if you have the ability to watch this show and can get it for a reasonable price on Amazon, the first season of Ultimate Force is pretty good and worth having and it has subtitles too which is a big plus in my book. I've already purchased S-2 and S-3.
