5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent guitar stand
This stand works like a charm--holds guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, etc. etc--anything with a neck and peghead. Adjusts easily and securely. Has an elastic strap to keep instrument from falling out of the suspension fork, but I've never found it necessary to use.

This stand works like a charm--holds guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, etc. etc--anything with a neck and peghead. Adjusts easily and securely. Has an elastic strap to keep instrument from falling out of the suspension fork, but I've never found it necessary to use.

Folds into a nicely compact form, and it's sturdy enough, but its chief virtue is that it suspends the instrument by the peghead (sorry, you post-moderns who play the "headless" guitars) and doesn't have the bottom bracket to get tangled in the strap when you need to change instruments quickly.

One caution--depending on the shape of the peghead and placement of your machine heads you may find that the suspension fork can nudge the tuning pegs. I haven't found it a problem, but if you have a banjo, for instance, with easy-turning planetary tuners, you might need to be careful in "hanging" the instrument.

I've been a bassist for over 30 years. I had a small ultimate stand before this one that was great, but doesn't hold my new bass as well. On a ship contract recently, they had these and I think it's the best stand I've used, so I bought one for myself. Very solid, (even during rough seas) and I don't have to worry about the stand marking my instrument. Easy on, easy off and it folds up reasonably small, though not tiny. Build seems solid. I play over 100 dates a year and I've had cheaper stands that lasted 10 years, so I'm not expecting any quality issues.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever, solid design for guitar stand- does not hold mandolins, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Ultimate GS100 Support Genesis 100 Guitar Stand (Electronics)
Contrary to the prior reviewer "Fuzzworth"- this guitar stand cannot be adjusted to safely hang a mandolin. A mandolin can not reach the padded legs.

It is a great guitar stand though. The "hanging from yoke against padded legs" design- also shared by the Hercules 414B - is ingeniously simple, and works great for guitars.

The slightly more expensive Hercules 414B offers automatic closing and opening arms at the yoke, rather than the rubber band thingie that straps across the yoke that comes with this one. Ultimate also makes a more expensive one with that same kind of automatic-arm mechanism- the Ultimate GS-1000. Buyers may want to opt for that feature- it makes it easier to grab and place the guitar with one hand. At the time I bought it, I didn't think it was worth springing for the extra $10 or $15, but now I wish I had.

The only other disappointment with this stand is that it does not come with a carrying bag like the small Fender stands, though I guess it doesn't really need one.

All in all a great value for the price, but it would be even better if they could pad the vertical tube to enable hanging mandolins, so that one could easily trade a guitar and mandolin back and forth at gigs.

I've always used the standard guitar stands with the bottom support. I was a little hesitant to get this one since it doesn't have that support. This stand, however, is awesome. The guitar is held firmly from the top. Protective rubber helps prevent any scratches as well as the guitar from slipping. There's also a strap you can use to secure it. The legs are covered with protective material to allow the guitar to rest on them without scratching it. The nice feature is that it packs really well and compact, unlike most of the stands with the bottom support. I highly recommend this stand.

The reviews I read were very helpful in fiding the stand I wanted. This stand is super cheap and just outstanding. It even feels solid and well built. I really was suprised what I got for my money and am extreamly satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stand, April 26, 2008
This review is from: Ultimate GS100 Support Genesis 100 Guitar Stand (Electronics)
My wife gave me one of these stands as a birthday gift. Out of the several stand I have had in the past this is the best.

The Guitar hangs from the head with the body resting on the legs. The padding works great. It is very stable and the guitar lifts out with out a problem.

I highly recommend this stand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar and instrument stand, May 21, 2008
This review is from: Ultimate GS100 Support Genesis 100 Guitar Stand (Electronics)
I own three of these stands, two of them over six years. While I was active with a band for the first three years I had them, they were set up and taken down twice a week and have held up well. All you have to do for setup is twist the lock, fold the legs down and twist the lock back then flip over the cradle and then adjust desired height. I have used them for acoustic guitars, banjos and mandolins. They are rather sturdy, even around my five year old.

My primary reason for purchasing these stands was their compact size when folded (approx. 21" x 3.5"). And also because there are not any rests for cables and straps to get tangled in. However, I must note that my acoustic bass guitar is too tall for this stand to rest in the cradle, for this check out the GS200 that has rests built into the legs (but no cradle height adjustment). An added bonus are the slots in the protective rubber of the cradle to hold picks.

I have had only one issue with one of my stands. The lock that adjusts the height of the cradle has a pin that worked its way almost out. I had to gently tap it back with a hammer. Still works fine.

The GS100 is more expensive than a simple tube stand, but if you need a stand that is compact to carry or does not have rests to tangle straps and cables this is definately worth the cost and deserves consideration.

1.0 out of 5 stars Deserves a ZERO, January 17, 2012

This review is from: Ultimate GS100 Support Genesis 100 Guitar Stand (Electronics)
I sought out this stand in an effort to avoid the vinyl-based padding used on cheaper stands--vinyl reacts with the nitrocellulose lacquer used on Gibson (and other traditionally finished guitars). Unfortunately, this stand was only good for about 18 months of very light use around my home. Eventually, the lock that holds the legs in place when they're deployed failed. I sent it to Ultimate Support, who determined that I qualified to give them $19 for a refurbished stand to "replace" the defective unit. No thanks.

So, my search continues for a better-quality stand than this one. At least I can say that I've narrowed my search down... I won't need to look at anything that Ultimate Support sells. Thanks for that, at least.

Fast shipping, great price and product. I've used these stands for ever and never lost a guitar off one. Keep the center of gravity low and they are as sturdy as a rock.

A few years ago, I came across the Ultimate Support Genesis GS100 guitar stand. I believe a rep at a store recommended it to me. The stand has lived up to the recommendation, and then some! It is a solid guitar stand that works for my Taylor acoustic and my Taylor electric. The center shaft also extends to be long enough to handle a long-scale bass and collapses to a length that would accommodate smaller instruments (probably not mandolins, but 3/4 scale guitars and other smaller instruments would work with this stand).

I highly recommend it!
