Gary Glitter's All-Time Greatest Hit's, February 7, 2006
This review is from: Ultimate Gary Glitter (Audio CD)
They call this album the ultimate. Indeed, it is the best single collection of Gary Glitters music ever put out. Spanning two discs, it traces 25 years of music (1972 to 1997), during which time Gary Glitter was among the biggest stars, having a world wide profile of hit singles and sell out tours.
His biggest hits included "Rock N Roll", "Leader Of The Gang", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "I Love You Love Me Love", "Always Yours" and so on... these songs helped to define an era of Rock. As the 1970s drew to a close, Glitter had also recorded Country, Disco and Ballads and while his songs charted, he was no longer able to reach number 1, "Oh Yes, You're Beautiful" had given him an additional Number 2 success and the classic disco/rock number "Little Boogie Woogie" had also charted (Shakin' Stevens would later cover this, bringing it back into the top 40 in the 1980s), but Glitter was facing bankruptcy (he had made - and spent- over 5 million pounds by 1979).
He went on to a career as a stage actor in the rock horror show, but was soon making new hit's, with "Then She Kissed Me", in 1981, followed by "Dance Me Up" in 1985, and Christmas of that year saw "Another Rock And Roll Christmas" go top 10, and it remains one of the top 30 Christmas song hits of all-time in the United Kingdom.
Later success included the single "Through The Years", it's parent album, his own restaurant in London, Many TV and Radio appearances, including hosting an episode of Top Of The Pops, other artists covering his material (such as Joan Jett, Oasis and Generation X), More success as a stage actor, and the song "Rock Hard Men" (included here).
Also on this album is are songs such as "When I'm On I'm On", "Sidewalk Sinner" and "Oh what a fool I have been", which were not hit singles but either popular album cuts, or non-charters that found popularity among fans after their initial releases.
If you are a fan of great Rock music, then you should enjoy this album.

Glitter through the ages, November 2, 2008
Contains all the classics and a few extra. Will take anyone back to the era of Glam Rock. Gary had a real stage presence and related to the audience like no other rocker - OK - so Marc Bolan was up there too.

Outstanding collection, April 4, 2008
What a great collection of Gary Glitter's tracks.
However, let's get the bad stuff out of the way first...I was really pissed to learn of his child porn behavior....throw him in jail and bury the key, I say. His music is banned in our home....my wife, a very avid ex-fan, won't tolerate his music!
I attended, wife in tow, a number of his concerts and they were outstanding! I attended the concert where "Gary Glitter's Gangshow - The Gang, The Band, The Leader" was recorded. One of the best, if not the best, live performance and shows ever. His songs were somewhat unique and looking over the titles with hindsight ie 'Do You Want To Touch Me', 'Angel Face' and 'Rock Hard Men', they look mighty suspicious.
Gary sure looked creepy but I liked his sound.
This is a good collection and a must have if you like his stuff. However, I would also track down the live album identified above...it captured the manic exuberence of this whacked-out nut.
Highly recommended!
