More About the Author

Michael Thomas Ford is the author of more than fifty books in genres ranging from humor to horror, literary fiction to nonfiction. His work for adult readers includes the best-selling novels What We Remember, Changing Tides, Full Circle, Looking for It and Last Summer, and his five essay collections in the "Trials of My Queer Life" series. As a writer for young adults he is the author of Suicide Notes and Z (forthcoming in 2010), and under the name Isobel Bird he wrote the popular "Circle of Three" series. In 2009 he signed a 3-book deal with Random House for a series featuring Jane Austen as a modern-day vampire. The first book in the series, Jane Bites Back, will be published in January, 2010. Michael Thomas Ford has accomplished something in this beautiful, inpsiring book that has not been achieved by any other sex guide for gay men--provided solid information on achieving a great sex life while emphasizing that sex is not the most important part of a gay man's life. Where other books attempt to detail every conceivable sex act, Ford's focuses on what really makes for satisfying sex, exploring what makes you and your partner happy. An earlier reviewer complained that there weren't enough "techniques" described in the book. This misses the point. Techniques are not what make for great sex (having sex isn't that difficult, after all), and Ford discusses this with insight and humor, explaining that exploring your sexuality is more about having open communication with your partners (and with yourself) than it is about outlining where to put what. Ultimately his advice is much more useful than any step-by-step instructions. I found this book to be incredibly refreshing. The text is first-rate and the photos are hot. This easily replaces The Joy Of Gay Sex as the bible of gay male sexuality.

I was extremely disappointed when I purchased this title. While the book is indeed full of wonderful full-color photographs, the actual information in the book is useful only those who really need an introduction to gay life. Otherwise, the sex portion of this book, especially, has absolutely nothing in it that two teen boys with a tiny spark of imagination couldn't come up with. I would not recommend this book to anyone who has ever had sex before, since you've probably done everything that Ford discusses.

This book contains alot of information and covers the whole gamet when it comes to being gay. Some of the illustrations provided deal specifically with gay sex, while the remaining information discusses the gay lifestyle. The book is well written, has a great layout and is sensual, and maybe a bit erotic, without being classified as pornography. Even if we are familiar with portions of this book, it reminds us that there is more to us then just great sex!
