5.0 out of 5 stars Bridges the gap between poor dork and rich dork
This book is a great example for all of us that believe that riches can be made purely through the Internet - such as the "I wake up and have $3,000 of orders in my email box each day." dreams.

Yes, you can make this kind of money, but your chances are slim - the competition is fierce. Antion's book gives tons of great strategies for your e-biz, that many...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good basic Electronic Marketing book
I have read several books on the topic of Electronic Marketing. This book rates average in my opinion. The first half of the book is pretty basic, but would be useful to a novice at E-marketing. I have read several books on the topic of Electronic Marketing. This book rates average in my opinion. The first half of the book is pretty basic, but would be useful to a novice at E-marketing. The 2nd half gets better with a number of good specific examples and refers the reader to many useful websites/weblinks. Chapter 3 on Mechanics of Website Sales is very good and practical covering how to build an online store, get credit, shopping carts, merchant accounts, using a turnkey outsourced store, etc. If you're a more advanced E-marketer, you might find the book too simplistic. Overall, given the price of the book, I think it's worth reading.

Yes, you can make this kind of money, but your chances are slim - the competition is fierce. Antion's book gives tons of great strategies for your e-biz, that many overlook. He then mixes these with some flesh-and-blood applications so we are not totally dependent on our search engine rankings.

He is not overly technical, as we learn that he was a public-speaking guy that slid in the side door to the ebiz world. This is a plus, as his presentation flows well and draws examples.

The insane amount of affiliate advertising gets old, but hey - the book is a great example of what he preaches.

If you don't make back the 13 dollars you spend on the book, there is something wrong with you :)

Have fun - God bless

The Ulimate Guide to Electronic Marketing lives up to its title. Most importantly if you're just starting an Internet business, then this book must live on your desk. My copy is highlighted and has post-it notes poking out all over the book. There are tons of useful, practical and easy to implement tools and tips throughout. Even if you're a seasoned marketer online, I have no doubt you'll find a new trick or be reminded of a strategy you must implement to make money online. Tom Antion walks his talk. He's a millionaire who has made his fortune by marketing his business, services and products online. I know my business revenue has grown significantly since implementing many of Tom's strategies that are found in this book. But be warned! This is not about getting rich quick. As with most things in life, you have to do the work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Guide appropriately named - It delivers!, August 12, 2005
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques that Really Work (Paperback)
I purchased this book based on my prior experience with Tom Antion, who I know to be a superb marketer. I've been using Tom's information and techniques for over 5 years, and every time I use his teachings, I get results.

As I prepare to take my Image Coaching / Consulting firm to the next level, I'll once again be referring to Tom's wisdom in this book to help me make the move. Consistently good information, delivered in an easily-understood style, without a lot of hype - just what a hard-working solo entrepreneur needs.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book simply delivers!, March 17, 2007

Anyone in business, who has a website, is thinking about having one, wonders why some websites work and some don't, or has any interest in Internet commerce should buy this book.

Most websites, quite frankly, suck. They might be beautiful and artful at best, but they are "brochure-wear" - mine originally was. It replaced the need for a paper brochure, and like a brochure, almost no one read it. Certainly random web surfers and searchers, no matter how interested they might have been, rarely found it. I gradually got my site working like an effective website should, and it's getting better fast with this book's help. I wish I had The Ultimate Guide years ago when I launched my site!

Tom breaks his strategy into three prongs, and even if you are interested in only one or two this book has enough value that you probably need it.

Prong #1: Build a great website. A great website, among other things, is ones the search engines love and send you people who will be happy to find it.

Prong #2: Build an email list of people who want to hear from you. Periodically send them things of value, for example a useful ezine/enewsletter.

Prong #3: Develop and sell information products. It doesn't matter what your main business may be, having some low cost (and up) products so people who like your "free stuff" can see how good your "non-free stuff is." If, as in my example, you are a consultant and speaker, people who buy products for maybe $20-$100 will be more likely to hire you for your normal fees. It's a BIG leap of faith for someone to hire you for consulting or to deliver a keynote speech, i.e. for thousands of dollars, as their first transaction with you!

I knew Tom Antion existed for a while. I'm wary of most Internet marketers and gurus, because most of them are full of nonsense. Tom, and his book, delivers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Small Business Electronic Marketing Goodies, September 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques that Really Work (Paperback)
I found this book amazingly helpful if not a bit simplistic. Nevertheless, some of the best ideas are taught in a simplistic manner and this book does not disappoint. Anyone engaged in marketing his or her business on the web will find a great deal of useful information in this title.

Tom Antion takes you from the basics to more advanced concepts and practical application of internet marketing as you advance through the text. The book is loaded with tidbits of information about a broad spectrum of internet marketing topics. He covers the most important areas in great depth and other, less critical, areas only topically. I particularly liked the level of detail provided on how to select an industrial strength shopping cart and web host provider. Believe me, it's quite thorough; the best I've ever seen in fact.

He goes on to discuss in reasonable detail the "Mechanics of Website Sales", electronic publishing, and product development. He also did an outstanding job covering gateway websites, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - including text link frequency and title & meta tag creation, optimized content, and how to leverage sub-store sites. I felt like a SEO heavyweight after reading that section!

His writing style is interesting and the book is filled with many useful links but some of them no longer work. Still, even non-working links give you a starting point to search for more current information. Also, many of the recommendations are affiliate links for which he gets a commission. I don't object to such self-promotion so long as the author is as up front about it as Mr. Antion.

For a 294 page paperback it packs quite a wallop. I highly recommend this book if you're at all interested in promoting a website on the Internet. Five stars from me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Guide to Applying the Elbow Grease, August 13, 2005
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques that Really Work (Paperback)
I found Antion's book definitely worthwhile. He lays out what he has found to be successful in a clear and understandable way, and he covers a tremendous amount of ground. I particularly liked his take on testing (product, price, copy, etc.) and how it can work for you online. Please do note, however, that this is not a 'get rich without work' scheme. He lays out the plan of action, but the reader must commit to the actual work (and it is work) to accomplish that plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstandingly Useful!, April 10, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques that Really Work (Paperback)
I bought this after hearing Tom speak at the National Speakers Association Meeting in Washington a couple of months ago.

I must be honest, that I was very sceptical. It all seemed to be too good to be true. But this book has made a believer of me!

I am a complete Internet newbie, so I'm sure that some of this material will be very basic for more seasoned hands, but for someone just getting started, there is a treasure trove of useful information. As might be expected, some of the web addresses aren't good any more, but actually surprisingly few.

Tom does inded promote himself and his products quite shamelessly, but not in any obnoxious way: I found it pleasantly amusing. The fact is that he is one of a growing band of people who really have made the Internet work for them by providing much needed services.

I've even bought a copy from our Web Meister, who probably knows it all already, but will, I am sure, find some useful gems in the book.

This is an outstandingly useful introduction for anyone starting out on the road to successful Electronic Marketing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have book for Internet marketers, June 15, 2005
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Electronic Marketing for Small Business: Low-Cost/High Return Tools and Techniques that Really Work (Paperback)
Tom Antion has a rare ability to clearly communicate the strategy and techiques of Internet marketing. His book has already saved me tens of thousands of dollars in services I would have spent for Web graphic designers, Web site development, search engine optimizaiton and the like. I have found it is more work to hire it out than to learn from his book and do it yourself. And the results are far better! No one I have met in this field knows so much about the many pieces it takes to make Internet marketing work, e.g., teleseminars, search engines, developing product, keywords, Google and Overture ads, and writing copy. More importantly, Tom has researched everything he preaches so it has grounding. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from a business and Internet genius.

Treasure chest of realistic and practical concepts for ecommerce. Tom is right on target with this book. Only thing I regret about buying this book is that I did not have access to this type of information 8 years ago when my dot com failed. I know his teachings are right on track because what he presents in the book is everything that needed to make the difference from success and failure. Now after reading the book I have a renewed sense of wanting to try the dot com again, but only in a bigger and better way. Not being a techie, the book is easy to understand and when you read, you find yourself not wanting to put the book down. I would say if anyone does not like the book, then they have not truly tried putting up an ecommerce web site up. A few grammatical errors, but an excellent read. I first learned about this book while listening to wsradio.
