First class read for every elk hunter,

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Elk Hunting (Paperback)
As a fellow author and elk hunter I try to read everything I can get my hands on, on the subject of elk and elk hunting. Theodore Roosevelt said," People who love the outdoors should be omnivorous readers. If so, they have the best of two worlds. They learn more-and enjoy life more."
Bob Robb's, The Ultimate Guide to Elk Hunting is a must read for elk hunters of all skill levels.

Ultimate Guide to Elk Hunting,

Ok now we are talking about a book with information and with the few years I have under my belt they told the truth. Yes hunting is not for sure or 100% but the information shared was well worth the price of the book. More in depth which I was looking for and would love to sit around the camp fire and jaw with these guys they have a list of knowledge that one could tap. Picked up some great tips to help shorten the learning curve but also when something happens to you the answers to why may be answered when you think of what you read. As they say that is what makes hunting elk so much fun it is totally a challenge specially when you are an archer. Good Job!

A good place to start,

I was a bit leery of a book that uses "Ultimate Guide" in it's title as usually they don't deliver and are anything but "ultimate". I must say that this book does a good job of delivering good, solid information without being overly wordy. It's an easy and enjoyable read with information covering just about everything you would want to know as a new elk hunter. Various chapters have guest "experts" that share their experiences. It covers patterning elk habits to finding suitable elk habitat, the importance of planning, scouting, and physical conditioning, Do-it-yourself or guided hunts, information about weapon selection (archery, muzzleloader, and rifle) and various hunting strategies.
One downside about the book was that, at times, it felt like a paid advertisement from Knight & Hale products (the reason I knocked off a star). The chapter on calling elk (with Chad Schearer) seems particularly loaded with name dropping which Knight & Hale calls he prefers. The guest experts for the chapter on muzzleloaders are Harold Knight and David Hale themselves. Still, the product name dropping is fairly isolated and it doesn't greatly detract from the overall quality of the book. If you've never hunted elk or feel like you could brush up on some pointers from people who have been there, this book is a safe bet.
