5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I bought this book along with Graphic Guide to Frame Construction : Details for Builders and Designers (For Pros by Pros) (Spiral-bound) and this book is more for the do-it-yourselfer person than the other book. 2.0 out of 5 stars Decent book. - Poorly organized
I have a ton of home improvement type books, since I am a pro handyman - largely self taught. This book is hard to get through. It is cumbersome and poorly organized. Not recommended.

Excellent book. Framing can become an art with technical books like this. If you want to get into framing pick three books and make this one of them. Lots of pictures with just the right amount of instructions. Its the best way to learn and understand framing without being at a building site.

4.0 out of 5 stars House Framing - Review, June 7, 2007
This review is from: Ultimate Guide to House Framing: Plan, Design, Build (Paperback)
House Framing, Plan, Design, Build, is a very good overview for a novice that is planning to build or add to a home. It does a good job of covering the basics, but is not enough detail for someone to use to completely frame a house or addition.

Clear graphics and very very detailed. No history lessons, author's vision or other personality intrussions as found in other building books. Looks like the technical manual of the platform framing method to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars good book, November 30, 2005
This review is from: Ultimate Guide to House Framing: Plan, Design, Build (Paperback)
It is good book and good details. Helps understand why, how, where. But I wish this book tells you how to and how much to messure for the house. So thats why I am giving a 4 stars. Its good book that I would recommend it anyone who needs to build a house or future to add on.

We hired someone to frame our house, as it turns out. So I cannot accurately speak to how well this book would have helped us frame our house. But the book does appear to have enough information, and it seems to photograph those things that would be less understood otherwise. It seems to be written for the amateur as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, July 14, 2008

I thought that this was a very good book especially for the novice carpenter or do-it-yourselfer. This book is very informative with easy to understand pictures and drawings. It does not go too in depth on certain subjects, but it is still everything you need to at least get started on a project. The only thing that I noticed as I was reading, was that a couple of the roof rafter calculations were incorrect, but they were not hard to figure out.

I am not a carpenter nor in the building industry. I have built decks, but a building (shed) was beyond my ability. This book made it easy and I was able to understand all of the construction concepts presented. A very good resource for the money.
