Informative!,

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Small Game and Varmint Hunting: How to Hunt Squirrels, Rabbits, Hares, Woodchucks, Coyotes, Foxes and More (Hardcover)
This book is very informative. If you are just starting out, or considering trying you luck with a critter that maybe you have less experience with, then you will find this book very helpful. Chapter 12 is on firearms safety, 13 is on hunting ethics, and 14 (the last chapter) covers processing game and includes some interesting game recipes. I think there is a little something in this book for everyone that enjoys hunting and someone just beginning to take up hunting is sure to benefit the most. My teenage daughters recently expressed an interest in hunting (much to my surprise) and I bought this book hoping to find material that would cover a wide range on hunting topics. I hunt, but until this year never considered that my girls would have an interest in hunting and I neglected the opportunity of starting their hunting education earlier. I think this book is just what I was looking for and will be a great way to get them started, along with the basic hunters certification course and actual time in the field with dad. I highly recommend!

An excellent read with separate chapters on different species, including their natural histories and tactics. Gives clear and helpful advice on equipment, including calls and meat preparation. A great book for 'dipping into'.

The author of this book is too long-winded. The book can be summed up in 1/4 of the pages used. If your wondering what the more is in the title its very vague detail about some other types of small game. However, there is some decent information.

This book is useful for all hunters, either novice or expert afield. The author has a straightforward easy style that is effective in presenting information while at the same time keeping the reader's interest. I found his chapter on squirrel hunting especially good. There are several recipes included which provides the logical and practical conclusion after successfully mastering his techniques.

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Small Game and Varmint Hunting: How to Hunt Squirrels, Rabbits, Hares, Woodchucks, Coyotes, Foxes and More (Hardcover)
This book breaks down hunting different species by chapter. One chapter on squirrels, one on rabbits and hares, one on coyotes, etc. It discusses the types of firearms to use for each species and the different methods for hunting them. This seems like a good idea if an individual has access to land with a dense population of these animals that can be tracked and monitored before the hunt. This is good if one is going to hunt nothing but rabbits all day; or nothing but foxes all day; but what if an individual wants to go out hunting for any small game he comes upon in unfamiliar land? The book doesn't really address this, and the reader must make his own decisions based upon experience and knowledge of firearms. The author assumes that everyone has access to a dozen different guns, and can take all of these guns out in the field to use whenever the situation calls for it. This book also lacks a section on hunting upland birds (grouse, pheasant, etc.). Not a bad book for the seasoned hunter, but could've been presented better for the novice.

It's hard to describe. The information is good, but the layout is dull and uninspiring. It does not make for an easy, or interesting read.
