Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The Chicago Tribune recently reported that the business of sports is now the twenty-second biggest industry in the U.S., that more than 200 colleges and universities now offer programs in sports management, and that companies closely tied with sports marketing, such as Nike, receive as many as 20,000 job applications each year. Special events, ranging from the Super Bowl to local dart league tournaments, have become important and highly effective vehicles for marketing. This unique and authoritative guide provides an overview of the relatively new business of sport event management and marketing, recommends strategies for success, and details step-by-step guidelines for producing events, for addressing such topics as negotiations, budgeting, arranging accommodations, media planning, risk and insurance coverage, and merchandising. Included are more than 100 pages of sample agreements, contracts, and forms; useful names and addresses; a glossary; and a bibliography of books, periodicals and brochures. Graham is president of his own sports and entertainment market consulting firm (and the man who would be Oprah Winfrey's husband). David Rouse

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Sport Event Management and Marketing (Hardcover)
The authors do a good job of letting readers know what they are in store for when entering this field. However, little attention was paid to smaller venues. But if used as a inside look at what goes into a huge sporting event this is a pretty good read.
