Editorial Reviews

Review

Your book for Martial Arts has greatly helped my power and speed. I feel younger than I am. I am 43 and started Taekwondo almost one year ago. The programs in your book have also helped my confidence. I really like the different workout programs that are available in the book. --Anthony S, 3rd place in tournament in Forms

I have been following the program in your book for two weeks. The program has helped me focus and helped me become stronger, wiser, and more well-rounded. It is crucial for jiu jitsu to be all around physically strong and I aim to follow the workout to better myself in my favorite marital art. --Daniel A

3.0 out of 5 stars A Good Sart, March 14, 2009

This review is from: Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Martial Arts (Paperback)
All of the books in this series are nearly the same which can be a bit annoying. However, I view any weight-training programs offered as just a start rather than as the end all of what to do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should be tailed to martial arts!, December 4, 2011

This review is from: Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Martial Arts (Paperback)
While I am confident that the author understands and is fully qualified to discuss traditional weight training techniques, I would have expected a sports-specific practitioner to have been consulted on the specific exercises and techniques necessary for that sport. In martial arts, stretching and warm-up is very important and I would have expected the stretching and warm-up section to be much larger than it is. The exercises should also be specifically chosen to best complement your sport. This does not appear to be the case here.
I would buy a book (or multiple books) specific to your style of martial art. In my case (Karate), I am using "The Art of Hojo Undo" for training and an older introduction book by Shingo Ohgami for warm-up (but any comprehensive book covering your specific martial art will provide the proper stretching and warm-up exercises necessary).
Keep looking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Value of the book, July 25, 2008

I thought that this book would have been more robust, the exercises in the book are good, just nothing ground breaking. May want to save your dollar if you are an experienced martial artist!
