5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I'm an assistant coach of a HS rugby team. We will be using these routines in the offseason. The routines definitely cover the muscle groups required to play a demanding sport such as rugby.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless for rugby
Basic weight training information and program, nothing you cant find for free and better online. However if you want a compact program in your hands its a good starter. Don't buy this however if you actually want to have workouts specific to your position in rugby. I've never taken a look at the other books in this series, but i suspect that the workouts are almost all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, December 11, 2007
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Rugby (The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Sports, 20) (The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Sports, ... Guide to Weight Training for Sports, 20) (Paperback)
this is a real meat and potatoes book, which i think is a good thing. the worst thing about reading books about excersise is hearing about stuff that you dont need to know. this book is for people who have the time and desire to go to the gym at least 4 times a week. no half-hearted efforts here.
if you follow the book's schedule YOU WILL MAKE GAINS. this i think is the key to this books effectiveness. its not the lifts that he chooses or the number of sets/reps persay- if you have been lifting for sometime, most of the concepts will be pretty commen sense. he also leaves things open for you so your lifting sessions dont get stale.
I think one word sums this book up...simplicity. everything is done for you, you just need to have to drive to do it!

I have rarely seen such detail in such a small space. Gets right to the point with easy-to-follow concepts, instructions, and pictures. Online resources are also helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rugby, January 9, 2004

I never really thought I would write a review, but I thought this was the least I could do. This book definately helped me form a plan of action, something that I lack often. And after a very short time I started to notice improvements in my preformance. Thanks.

Don't buy this however if you actually want to have workouts specific to your position in rugby. I've never taken a look at the other books in this series, but i suspect that the workouts are almost all the same across any of the books( ulitmate guide to... football, cycling, etc). Really not worth the money for anyone who has experience in weightlifting or is looking to scrummage better, tackle harder or have a quicker sidestep

3.0 out of 5 stars good for me, April 7, 2005

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Rugby (The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Sports, 20) (The Ultimate Guide to Weight Training for Sports, ... Guide to Weight Training for Sports, 20) (Paperback)
i quite liked the book, as the routine i was using had become very stale, and i have noticed improvements from following these routines for the last two months
however, i appreciate the fact that the training is non-specific to the various positions (to be honest, i play flanker so i hadn't noticed this till i saw some of the other reviews...) so not suited to everyone.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good on training - bad on rugby, December 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this book for the off season training.

Solid general weights routine, but very little rugby specific training or 'insider knowledge'

Better and more specific training information out there to use.
