The Ultimate Guide to Windsurfing

Lifestyle and passion are fundamental to Freesports and the aim of the Ultimate Guide series was to offer readers an insight into these sports through the eyes and words of some of the sports leading professionals. Nik and Daida offer an insight from two professionals who are still at the forefront of the sport. Any windsurfer will know how addictive the sport can become and how every weather report or hint of wind in the trees outside can change your plans. However much time you are able to dedicate to your passion every windsurfer is certain to relate to the words in the Ultimate Guide.

Throughout the book readers are treated to outstanding photography. The Ultimate Guide to Windsurfing is packed with images from John Carter and Alex Williams. Two photographers who have travelled on the professional windsurfing world tour since it’s beginning, developing the techniques which make the images in the Ultimate Guide so outstanding. Capturing the worlds best sailors in mid action they manage to contain the energy and sheer power that makes windsurfing such a dynamic and adrenaline filled sport.

Many of the sports most famous faces including Francisco Goya, Robby Naish and Bjorn Dunkerbeck are captured in action. Pushing the boundaries and taking it to the limit. Wave sailing and freestyle has dedicated chapters and high speed slalom action is shown in full glory. If you are a participant, a potential new recruit looking to find out more or if you want your friends and family to understand why they see so little of you at weekends The Ultimate Guide is for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ego trip versus Instructional Guide, July 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Windsurfing (Paperback)
I was extremely dissappointed to find that this book was more about the authors, than about instructional tips on how to windsurf. As a beginner I was looking for some text to assist in the art of tacking/gybing etc. There are approx 2-3 pages that deal with tips and lessons, all others are just groovy pictures and unrelated comments made by the authors. My recommendation is stay clear of this one.

Save your money if you're looking for an instructional book. Far better instructions can be found on the web. All the instructions can fit on about an eighth on a page.

Save you money if you're looking for a picture book. Pictures are pretty bland, i.e., all the boards that one of the authors own.

Save your money!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the book Advertised, June 22, 2001

This review is from: The Ultimate Guide to Windsurfing (Paperback)
Don't be fooled, this book is not written by Josh Stone and Jason Polalow, it has been been written by Nik Baker and Daida Ruano Morneo. I admit they are two well renouned windsurfers but not the advertised people.

The content is ok but no more than is provided in the average winsufing magazine. Definately for the beginner or intermediate windsurfer.

Some interesting comments about gybing, freestyle manouvers and wave riding but not in depth enough to really tell you how to do them, just a basic outline.
