5.0 out of 5 stars I Spy on steroids! November 11, 2008
Verified Purchase
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
My 4 year old son has already mastered all of the I Spy PC games and books and apparently they have stopped making new titles in either so we were hungry for anything new in I Spy. We got a Wii not too long ago and when we saw this we just had to get it.

The images are 3D and very realistic; you rotate your way around and through them to find the items. (one example is an aquarium that you 'swim' through) The images are very detailed and some of the items are very small so if you don't have a super steady hand it can get frustrating but I think it will get better for him with time. Also, my son sits in a bar stool type chair to play this because the 'mouse' kept getting stuck because of his height. This has never been a problem with any of the other games but with this one, he seems to need a boost.

Usually in each image there are 2 or 3 interactive items (out of about 6 or 8) that you find and interact with. (i.e. a paper heart that you cut out using the remote, a paper airplane that you fly and steer) These are actually quite tricky and take a couple of tries to get them right. This is great for paying attention to instruction as well as great hand/eye coordination.

All in all very fun (for everyone) and a MUST for any I-Spy fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars A lot of non-violent fun for the whole family! December 21, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
We got this for my nieces and nephews for Christmas. I'm a real gamer, my wife plays a few games now and then. Neither of us has played any of the other I spy games. We've seen the books, but I haven't found this type of thing interesting since I was little and where's waldo was popular.

We always try out games before we give them to the kids, and usually we play them for 10 or fifteen minutes. I played this for a few hours, and now my wife's addicted too! We're sure the kids are going to love it too! You just zoom around and find whatever is in the riddle. Some of it's hard to find, but us adults have always found everything.

So you have to move around a 3-d level and find the items in a riddle. There are about 10 items per riddle and in all there are 40 riddles. The movements you can make are limited (your movements are on "rails"). This is actually a good thing since it it's impossible to get lost.

It's not given a 5 because it's a "perfect game", but because it does enough right to get played a lot in my house. I got it cheap because of a special deal. I don't think it's a must buy at $30, but it's definitely a great buy when it becomes a budget game.

I don't know how long it will be for sure yet, but I'm guessing that it will take us adults somewhere in the 8-10 hour range to finish it (40 riddles with 10 to 15 minutes each). I think it will take the kids longer.

Cons:
1. Sometimes the controls are a little wonky. Never had more than a momentary problem, so it's not a game killer. Also, sometimes you need to hit the number 2. Why games that control mainly with the arrow keys, a & b make you also hit the 2 button is beyond me.
2. This isn't a con if you play with your kids.

4.0 out of 5 stars OMG! November 29, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is very fun and addictive. Some of the clues are very hard to find (I cannot find the skate in the auquarium level 4, any help?). Good times!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money June 30, 2009

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I was excited to get this for my 6 year old twins. The game is not very fun and has many snags. It gets stuck and won't let you out of the mode it is in. It keeps repeating the same activities and only lets one player control the movement of the pictures to search. It leaves us frustrated and unwilling to play it.

Invest in something else unless you get this for ten dollars or less.

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult for kids alone but great as kid/adult project December 31, 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This game is probably too difficult for a youngster to do on his or her own. However, my six-year old daughter & I had a great time working through this game as a team (two people can search at the same time with two remotes, but only one person can "drive" around the scenes). And now that we've been through it once, she is having a good time going through again on her own with just minimal reminders from me (she is a huge I-Spy fan and her favorite Wii Play game is Find The Mii..).

Anyone who likes I-Spy will love this game and most of the mini-games are OK & don't detract from the game (some of them can be kind of hard, though). The only thing keeping it from a fifth star is that I think $30 is a little high for a game with limited replay value. However, I have seen it elsewhere for less.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty fun, but...... January 1, 2012
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
The game was fun enough that we stuck with it for the day it took to complete it. I had a couple of issues with it though. I purchased it for my very detail oriented 5 year old. My expectations were not high since I got it for $10 out of the Wal-Mart bargain bin - at the very bottom no less. He really loved looking for the items but we almost immediately discovered this is not a game he can play on his own. Most notably he was frustrated by the hard to complete mini games. First and foremost, many of the mini games seemed incredibly glitchy - even on our brand new system and remotes. Beyond that, when we finally did figure out how to force the mini games to work, it was frustrating that if you didn't complete a particularly tricky game on the first try, you lost all credit for progress made and had to start back at the beginning.

Another problem we had was that within the main games some of the items were hidden in dark shadowy corners and you couldn't actually see them until you accidentally clicked on them and then they were highlighted. After googling for clues to find a few seemingly impossible to find items, I realized that randomly clicking dark spaces very often solved the problem.

So my son and I worked through it together and we finished it and had a good time. it was certainly worth the money I paid, but I'd probably would have been annoyed if I had paid the $20+ Amazon is selling them for.
