2.0 out of 5 stars Two major flaws make this a weak story, February 17, 2011
This review is from: Ultimate Iron Man Vol 2 (Paperback)
One thing that is dislike in any story, comics books included, is when the hero character is made largely indestructible. This effectively eliminates most of the tension, because you know that the hero's power will protect him and there is no great physical danger. Therefore, I dislike the new plot device of having Tony Stark; the man in the Iron Man suit, being able to re-grow new limbs and recover from horrific injuries. In the original stories, Stark suffered from a serious heart condition and he was kept alive by the chest plate of his Iron Man armor. It was this vulnerability that made him more human a hero rather than an all-powerful super hero. This goes back to the plot device of the need to invent kryptonite in the Superman stories, for if the hero has no weaknesses then there is no real tension in the story.
I also took a strong dislike to the Obadiah, his presence annoys you in a manner similar to the Jar Jar Binks character of "Star Wars Episode I." He is whinny, a bit nasty, totally self-serving and often gets in the way. These are two very serious flaws in the story and they overwhelmed all the good characteristics.
