Jackie Wilson just may have been the greatest male singer/performer over the past fifty years and was loved by many including Elvis (who found his voice totally awesome) and Michael Jackson plus Jackie was given the title "Mr. Excitement" due to his incredibly great voice and amazing stage presence which always tore the house down!!!
Jackie Wilson shot to fame in the same era as Elvis and his career should have matched but due to poor management sadly this was not to be. Early classic hits composed by Berry Gordy such as "Lonely Teardrops" made money for Gordy and a Superstar out of Jackie but it was strange that Jackie Wilson would never be signed to Motown Records which was likely launched from the money made from Jackie's early Gordy composed hits...this was a real lost opportunity as Jackie would have blown the top off of that little Detroit Studio and would have easily become Motown Records brightest male Superstar and given Jackie Wilson the extraordinary career that his amazing once-in-a-lifetime talent warranted. Luckily great records still happened and this Ultimate Collection is a brilliant showcase of this amazingly versatile singer and not to be missed...hits galore and filled with one stunning performance after another, rush order this treasure chest of tremendous vocals and get ready for the musical experience of a lifetime...God Bless you Jackie Wilson and thanks for leaving behind this awesome treasure chest of brilliant classics for us to savor and enjoy...you are loved and missed.

Man, when I think of Jackie Wilson, a.k.a. Mr. Excitement,
my mind goes all the way back to those far away summers
at my grandparents house in the early 70's, when a very
musical young 8/9 yr old kid (myself) discovered a treasure
trove of old 45's, 78's, and albums that dated all the way
back to the mid 40's & down through the 50's and 60's
that once belonged to my mother, aunts and
uncles when they were teenagers!
They were kept in the large drawers of the two end tables that
flanked my grandparents old wood encased "hi-fi", which by
that time, there sat on top of it a then state-of-the-art
stereo system complete with an 8 track player!
(Ha!!--those were the days!)

Anywayz, everybody from Louis Jordan to Big Maybelle to
Laverne Baker to The Flamingos, Little Richard, Sam Cooke,
early James Brown, Ray Charles, etc. was in that drawer,
and I could go on and on!
But there was this one record called "Danny Boy" by an artist
named Jackie Wilson, that went straight to the core of me!
This man's voice was the purest, most soaring, most dexterious,
most soulful & beautiful voice that I'd ever heard in my life
to that point!--This man was SANGIN'---not just singing!

I think I played that song, along with "Your Love Keeps
Liftin' Me Higher" and "Your Whispers Gettin' Louder"
about 25 times a piece that day!
And as the years went on, I learned more and more about this man
who they say the ladies used to swoon over and the guys
wanted to be like!

This is my second purchase of this CD. I took it on a recent trip to Indiana to see my favorite cousin and as I played it he said I must have that CD. I gladly gave it to him knowing I could return to My Amazon and order me another. I'm more than pleased with all the selections as they remind me of my mother and I can still see her dancing to this music.

I saw Jackie Wilson at Scarlet O'Hara's in Underground Atlanta on either October 31st or November 1st of 1972. He was, as my title suggests, an electrifying performer, one of the greats.

All of his great hits are here with the exception of 1 top 20 song and a few others that were in the top 40. However, in my opinion, that does not diminish this double CD as none of those songs are my favorites. This is the most complete compilation of Jackie Wilson's hits with three, from March of 1960 to January of 1961, being covers of classical staples, Night, Alone At Last and My Empty Arms.

I guarantee that any Jackie Wilson fan who buys this double CD will play it at least 3 times before playing something else.

After listening to this set of Jackie Wilson hits, you'll fully appreciate why NPR had Jackie Wilson as one of the best voices of the twentieth century. His voice communicated tremendous emotion, no matter whether he was performing a show tune, a popular classic, rock-n-roll or rythm and blues. In all of these genres, his delivery was energetic and masterful.

this set of Jackie Wilson hits is extremely well done, fully conveying the essence of Jackie. There are a must have for those who appreciate rhythm and blues, rock-n-roll as well as jazz, show tunes and so-called "easy listening" vocals. The sound quality is top notch and not to be missed.

I prefer to have much more than just the hits for an artist I really enjoy. There are many reasons why an extremely good performance may not have become a hit that have nothing to do with the particular performance such as the amount of promotion done for the performance, what the DJs were into at the time and what other performers were offering. So, if you enjoy this set, look around for other sources of Jackie Wilson music.

That being said, this set is an extremely good introduction to the music of Jackie Wilson and includes samples of his music as his career progressed. It provides an initial broad overview of the music of Jackie Wilson, but there is a lot more out there.
