1.0 out of 5 stars Could Have Done Better
Having read this author's work in other venues, I am very disappointed in the writing and the subject matter. Any type of sensationalising of child abuse is distasteful to me. The book appeals to the prurient interests of people, but offers no education about the subject.

I read this book in one night. While I am not a survivor of sexual abuse, I had chills up and down my spine that made me feel so in touch with this child, as if it happened to me. This book takes you through the steps that this man, this animal, used to make a tiny child succumb to his wishes and deviant sexual appetites. How her "mother" could literally sell her own flesh and blood into sexual slavery is beyond me. I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat all the way through from start to finish. I take my hat off to Meg for finally fighting back and winning a long uphill battle to get the justice that she deserved and make the world see that this "upstanding, wealthy, pillar of the community" was really a disgusting animal, and her mother, no more than a money hungry, selfish witch, only out to better herself. I wish her all the luck and happiness in the world, and hope that her story is told and retold to help all the other victims of sexual abuse come to terms with what happened to them. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where are the adults?, September 14, 2001
This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
Meg Clairmonte's book was painful for me to read because I had a childhood as horrifying as hers. It's been difficult for me to write a review because of the closeness in our experiences. However, I want to write one so more people understand. Meg's book reveals just how misjudged children can be when adults do not want to see. The adults in Meg's life did not want to see the control and abuse Donald Sahlman inflicted on Meg. To free themselves of all obligation to protect children, adults sometimes even blame children for situations the children cannot control. The children end up alone.
The same thing happened in my childhood. My mother tried to kill me. When the murder attempt failed, she did her best to kill me emotionally. Other children could see what was happening in my family, but adults refused to see. I ended up facing my murderer alone. I survived emotionally only because my father loved me, though he did nothing to protect me from my mother. Meg and I and the thousands of others like us wouldn't have to cope alone if adults would pay attention. We end up living alone with terrors adults are afraid to just look at.
After reading Meg's book, please let one child know they are valuable and deserve to be treated well. You may not be able to stop the abuse, but you can help the child.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gripping Memoir and Legal Mystery, February 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
This is one of the finest memoirs I've read in a long time, and anyone who bothers to actually read it will instantly know that. In many respects this story does read like fiction, but that is one of the book's many strengths. It's a page turner, and I couldn't put it down. Meg Clairmonte's true story is harrowing and shocking as she chronicles the 25 years of sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her mulitmillionaire stepfather. The honesty with which she describes her terror of him--as well as her own mother, who essentially sold her daughter into sexual slavery in exchange for financial security--is astounding. Even more so, however, is the legal mystery aspect to this book. After her stepfather's death, Meg sues him and her mother in a Florida court. How will her lawyers prove this unspeakable crime and put a dead man on trial? This story will rivet you from the first chapter. It will speak to anyone who has ever been abused and hoped to ultimately see justice done. But it also will appeal to anyone who loves legal thrillers. Bravo!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational......Sad, Sad, Sad!, May 3, 2001
This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
A wonderfully written book with an inspirational story! Sad, sad, sad as the story and life unfolded. I was spellbound! Inspirational in the strength and resolve of the child who lived the story! My childhood was a combination of Norman Rockwell's and Andy of Mayberry growing up in small town America. I could not imagine the horror which Meg Clairmonte described and I was impressed with how well the author put it into words. This should not have happened. It should have been stopped! Why was it not stopped? Wake up America! Read the book. Save a child!

5.0 out of 5 stars This story is true--Meg isn't the only victim, June 19, 2001

This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
I read this book and was amazed at how the patterns of manipulation and abuse are always the same even though the people are different. It always begins by the offender studying the victim before the victim is aware. Then the offender convinces everyone the victim has "issues". Then the offender slowly manipulates the victim because now that everyone thinks the victim is crazy, no one will believe them when they tell the public their particular story, and the victim is victimized again. I know this because I was victimized by a pastor at a church who, by the way, is still in the ministry because no one believed me or wanted to. Thank you Meg, for having the strength to speak out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Judgment, May 1, 2001

This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
This book was one of the most compelling stories that I have ever read. As hard as it was to read the dreadful things that happened as the story developed, the harder it was to put the book down. I pray that after putting this story in print, that Meg is able to continue the healing process in her own life. Unbelievable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Free, March 11, 2001

This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
Ultimate Judgment is, without a doubt, a deeply moving, heartfelt, true story. I was not able to put it down. No one wants to believe or imagine that any child would ever be exposed to any form of child abuse. The horror is realizing that this was an everyday occurance within this family, so it resembled the norm! Every family has secrets, but for Meg, they were all around her, even in her dreams. The nightmares, the fear, the shame, and the lies. Her life was never really normal. Unbelieveably, the very person who was responsible for giving her life could have saved her from this terrible fate, but chose not to, out of pure selfishness and greed. Meg has endured many things in her life, and she has become a stronger person for it. She is a true survivor. I am so very proud of her. I know Meg personally, and love her for the very warm, caring, and couragous person she is. It's long been said that time is precious, but ultimatly, for Meg, the TRUTH was more precious than time. You're FREE now Meg! My love and prayers will always be with you. Love and best wishes, Sherry from Naperville,IL

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING COURAGE, February 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
While reading this book, I just couldn't put it down, it is the most compelling story I have read in a long time, I would love to go to the grave and dig up her stepfather and put my hands around his neck and squeeze the life out of him all over again, what sick person could do this to a child and for so long, where in the world was her mother, why didn't she help her daughter, was she so greedy for money and power she just turned her back and let it happen for so many years, I praise Meg for coming out and letting the world know. it will help so many others who in Meg's case were afraid, scared, and ashamed of it, we need to stand up for our rights and be heard, shout it loud and clear everyone who is abused. there is help for you. I recommend that everyone reads this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars I give thanks for this book, October 19, 2001

This review is from: Ultimate Judgment : A Story of Emotional Corruption, Obsession and Betrayal (Paperback)
This book is a fascinating and compelling journey through the struggles Meg endured to achieve peace after enduring abuse at the hands of both parents. Having struggled all my life through similar circumstances this book helped me to see I am not alone in this world and there are others out there who have also been abused by what are seemingly perfect parents to the outside world. I thank you Meg for having the courage to tell your story by writing this book
