From the Introduction of The Ultimate Marketing Toolkit:

"If you are looking for academic mumbo-jumbo marketing theory, this book is not for you. The Ultimate Marketing Toolkit includes only simple, easy-to-follow instructions for creating your own marketing toolkit."

Paula Peters is an outstanding writer. The Ultimate Marketing Toolkit is the best book available on marketing fundamentals and is refreshing in its clear, concise, and pragmatic presentation of the basics of business marketing. You will find sound and useable advice on 14 essential elements necessary for the successful marketing of any business. Peters has formulated and clearly communicated a theory of business marketing. While The Ultimate Marketing Toolkit offers straightforward "how to do it" topical outlines it also presents a systematic and comprehensive strategy for business marketing. This book should become a classic reference in this field. A visit to the author's web site reveals that she leads by example.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for first timers. Clear and easy-to-use, July 6, 2006

Business writer Paul Peters has given us business marketing 101 in one handy book that is truly a "toolkit."

If you are just starting a business, everything you need to know is in this toolkit. However if you have been in business for a while and need a little renewal of ideas and focus, this book is for you, too.

Peters explains everything so clearly that anyone can follow her guidelines. Chapter 1 discusses the "elevator speech," which she suggest be a thirty seconds soundbite. When you can clearly tell someone what you do in that short time, it means you have a focus of your ideal client. It should: 1) Describe your product or service, 2) pick a target customer, and 3) choose a customer benefit. Then put it all together it should quickly describe your business!

Other important chapters are on logo design, letterhead and business card and brochure content and design. She tells you how to do it yourselfâ"or a later chapter explains how to hire the right professional who will create what is right for your business.

The bio chapter why you need a bio and what to put into it for mailing or handling to clients and prospects. The bio is also published on your web site.

You can learn about writing effective press releases to get free publicity for your company. "Publicity is no accident," the author states. Your clients and vendors (and friends and family) will like to read about you too.

The chapter on the Web site is very important in this technology-drive marketing business climate today. Your Web site should be easy to find by search engines, easy to use and contain good content and pictures. Have a "call to action" where they are urged to call or email you, order something on your online store, go to another page, register for your newsletter, etc., etc.

As one who does this kind of writing for my clients, I found the book most helpful and can recommend it.

Armchair Interviews says: Good book for first timers or people who need to be reminded of the business marketing basics. Clear, easy-to-use helpful information.

There's nothing fancy about THE ULTIMATE MARKETING TOOLKIT by Paula Peters, and it's not the most compelling book around. But there is much to learn here and it is presented in a very easy to follow method. The book does tend to be pretty basic but would fit nicely with its' intended readers; small business owners and beginning copywriters.

The book does have some great moments, such as creating the 30-second sound bite (Chapter 1) and creating the tag line (Chapter 3). Beyond that, the book is basic, but fairly thorough.

As far as actual copy goes, there are chapters on postcards, press releases, print ads, brochures, web copy and newsletters. There are also samples of each at the end of the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Marketing 101 Primer!, November 21, 2008
This review is from: The Ultimate Marketing Toolkit: Ads That Attract Customers. Brochures That Create Buzz. Websites That Wow. (Paperback)
As a small business owner myself, I've found a lot of useful tips from this book, from for do-it-yourself marketing, step-by-step instructions for creating your business cards, a professional bio, letters, brochures, press releases, ads, web site content to newsletters. It shows you how to create professional-looking promotional pieces without spending lots of money. I also really liked the guidelines to coming up with a 30-second sound bite, and writing an effective tag line (that actually says something useful...).

Over the past several months I have applied many of the recommendations in this exceptional book. I am pleased to say my results have been extraordinary! Of particular help were the sections on sales letters, brochures and postcards. I have implemented many of Ms. Peter's recommendations and have been delighted with the positive response. This book is the real deal; well worth the investment. This book may become the paragon for future marketing books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't do anything more in your business until you read this book., March 12, 2007
This review is from: The Ultimate Marketing Toolkit: Ads That Attract Customers. Brochures That Create Buzz. Websites That Wow. (Paperback)
From the "Thirty Second Soundbite" to the last chapter, I couldn't put this book down. It was one revelation after another, as the author clarified things that seemed so complicated before.

The book walks you through all the major aspects in showing your professionalism as a business or growing your existing business, whether small or large, with minimal expense. And all done without techno-babble, written in easy-to-follow steps and a clear format that includes examples, helpful tips, warnings of what to avoid, good outlines, and reviews of each chapter.

Obviously written with a great deal of experience, Peters shares with the reader the most well-kept mysteries about important business builders, from writing a business letter or an ad to building a web site.

This book is a must read for anyone who wants to be pro-active in their own business and watch it grow by putting their best professional foot forward.
