A COOKBOOK ABOUT MEATLOAF?

Sure, the days of red and white checkered curtains and matching aprons are somewhat passé. Meanwhile, some things remain timeless, like health, comfort food cravings and the shortage of hours in the day. And as for meatloaf, well, as The Ultimate Meatloaf Cookbook demonstrates, it just gets better with time.

Best selling cookbook author John Chatham pays homage to the traditional, time-saving recipe -- ketchup, onions, oatmeal and all -- while giving modern takes to the old-fashioned favorite. Featuring 121 delicious recipes this book opens an entire culinary world beyond the common loaf and its brother the leftover sandwich.

The Ultimate Meatloaf offers recipes from around the globe, from the beloved All-American Meatloaf to Hawaiian Style to the more exotic Greek, Mexican, Indian and Asian twists.

While traditional recipes suit the ever-popular protein diet, this cookbook provides vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, low-salt, and low-carb alternatives. Easy step-by-step recipes stay true to meatloaf's greatest selling point -- it provides a delicious hearty meal in no time at all.

* Bestselling cookbook author John Chatham provides the authoritative guide on the All-American favorite

* Features 121 meatloaf recipes from a breakfast Meatloaf Benedict to Crock Pot Meatloaf

* Offers hearty, healthy meals for every appetite and diet plan

* Simple, no hassle recipes just the way meatloaf was intended

The Ultimate Meatloaf Recipes and Cookbook is the modern day answer to an old-fashioned tradition, because some things never go out of style.

Review

"The ULTIMATE good time for a meatloaf maven...great easy to use recipes, more fun to eat, wish I had a hard copy for my collection! Maybe the cookbook fairy will get me one for Christmas???!!! Really happy with purchase." - lafingotter

"The Ultimate Meatloaf Cookbook is a great little cookbook for anyone who loves meatloaf." - lmbernier

"We have had a couple of family recipes for meatloaf that are good, however this book has more options for the lowly meatloaf. We tried a couple of the veggie loafs. Surprised that they were quite good, even though I goofed up on making one of them." - gwwing

4.0 out of 5 stars You decide whether it's worth $10 August 5, 2012

Let's forgot for a minute that this author has authored a variety of diet books; paleo, low carb, belly fat, Mediterranean, making me wonder what he really believes or specializes in, or whether he is just a professional writer and not a "bestselling cookbook author". Or that several of these 5 star reviewers have declared more than one of those books the best and only diet you will ever need, as well as giving 5 stars to any other books written by the author, and talk about what is in this book.

The recipes are grouped in categories like Traditional, International, Glazed, with Fruit, All-American, Kids, etc., which at first glance seems ok until you browse the book and see things like Mexican style meatloaf in multiple categories. There is no index to find or cross-reference these, so if you want a basic ketchup glazed recipe you would have to look in any category you thought it might be in, Traditional, Glazed, All-American, and there is one listed as a crock pot version. There might be one in several categories and each category would have a different recipe. As a specialty cookbook I think the book should have contained additional information on cooking meatloaf, for example, generically adapting cooking times for any recipe for a variety of cooking methods; loaf pan, shaped, broiler pans, grilled, or crock pot. There is one crock pot recipe, just another tomato glazed version. Same for grilled, just an additional barbecue version. Also, I find meatloaf to be the hardest thing I cook to clean up, they all stick. Tips on pans; cast iron, 2-layer with drain holes, enamel, non-stick, and pan prep methods that really work would also be nice. Even the recipes are not consistent on whether to, or how to, prep a pan. Maybe it's just me, but I have tried them all, clean-up is still a chore.

As it is, it is just a collection of meatloaf recipes. If you hoped, like I did, that this was a personal cookbook, by an experienced chef that made a lot of meatloaf and had a lot of tips to offer, it isn't. I can't really penalize it for not containing anything other than recipes, since it did not claim to, but, I don't call this an "authoritative guide" on meatloaf. My family isn't real adventurous, I probably won't use this much, but if you want a collection of unique meatloaf recipes that you won't have to google around for yourself, there are many.

Minus 1 star for no index.

Meatloaf used to be scorned in my household but not anymore. This book has made my Meatloaf both healthy and very delicious. Now all I can hear from the kids is when is meatloaf night. This book is simple, easy to understand, and the illustrations are great. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Holy Meatloaf Batman! May 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
We love meatloaf around my house but it's always nice to have a twist to the recipe to keep the tastebuds from getting bored. I decided to try this cookbooks for ideas and I'm so glad I did! I now have 100 options at my fingertips from turkey meatloaf to broccoli sour cream to New Orleans style. There are seriously broad varieties of tastes and flavors to explore. Next on my list to try? Meatloaf Hawaiian style. I dinged the book a bit because it needs more pictures. The pictures that are there are great but because some of these recipes are so unique, I wanted more pictures to make sure I got the results the author intended.

In the end, if you like meatloaf, give this book a try.

I got this as a free book so perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh. I tried Mom's Sherried Meatloaf tonight and it ended up being way too much liquid and was meat soup in the end. Read more

I have tried a few different recipes. Simple and easy. If your kids don't like meatloaf, make them in patties. They won't know they are eating meatloaf.
