Excellent Compilation,

The Ultimate Might and Magic Archives is an excellent choice for both Might and Magic fans and RPG fans alike. This product is particularly excellent because it includes the earliest Might and Magic games, which are otherwise very hard to find. Plus for it's price and all the hours of entertainment you can get out of it, it's just overall worth your time.

This is still and excellent series. Any one looking for a good storyline over graphics should make a point to add this to their RPG collection. Unfortunately, it's getting harder and harder to find under this "exact" title. However, there is hope and usually a CHEAPER PRICE to look forward to. When they released Might and Magic 6, they also offered a limited edition. It is called MIGHT AND MAGIC VI: THE MANDATE OF HEAVEN ( Special or Limited Edition ). It not only offers the newest full version of Might and Magic 6, but it ALSO INCLUDES the FULL VERSIONS
of M & M 1 - 5 ( or Might and Magic I, II, III, IV, V ). And, since it is not as RARE, it can usually be purchased at a much lower cost. [...]

WHY BUY THE ARCHIVES WHEN YOU CAN GET THE SAME GAMES CHEAPER!,

This Archives is a great game collection. But it only includes the first five games. I prefer Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven Special Edition. It offers the first five games as a bonus, AND includes the full version of six too. The kicker is, it's usally found MUCH CHEAPER elsewhere on AMAZON.COM

I had the Ultimate Archives of Might & Magic, and unfortunately gave it away.
Recently I got the Limited Might & Magic VI which, as others noted, also contains Might & Magic I thru V, which by the way, you have to find in a "Classic" folder on the CD, in order to install them. Now I wish I had kept the original Ultimate Archives of Might & Magic. It installs more than does the Archives on the Might & Magic VI Limited edition. The extra was on the order of another 50 MB of info. I also note the product description for Might & Magic I in the Ultimate Archives says it is in color. I can't say for sure if it would run in color on my system now, but I know Might & Magic I from the Limited Ed. of Might & Magic VI ran in black and white on my system. Note that either product (Ultimate Archives, or Might & Magic VI Limited, Classic folder with M&M I-V) will not run on 64-bit Windows 7 :-( They are 32-bit only. Also note they will tell you they are installing DirectX 9 on your system, and you cannot tell them not to, but not to worry, if you have DirectX 10, they won't eliminate it from your system. Also note both products come with some nice glossy maps and visual aids though the manuals are installed on your computer. Ultimate M&M Archives is something of a collector's item but if you want to save money and dont care if you miss out on some supporting files, you can go with the Limited Ed Might & Magic VI and get them that way. I had so much fun with these games, they were some of my favorite computer games ever. From re-rolling and re-rolling characters in Might & Magic I until I got the best stats that I could, to the fantasic mesmerizing soundtrack in some areas of World of Xeen, to the eminent playability of all these games for non-hardcore gamers, this represented some of the finest fantasy gaming ever devised for solo computer-based play.

If, like me, you love the Might and Magic Games 6 through 9 - do yourself a favor... Don't sully them by trying to play these antiquated relics.
If you are as foolish as I was, and decide to buy the Older M&M 1-5, you will almost certainly be disappointed. The games DO NOT work on modern computers, and even on our old one that runs Windows 98 that we keep in the spare room, only #3 loaded. On that one the colors were garish and distracting and the bars and animations that in the newer versions tell you of your characters health and danger status were ineffective. When you add this to the fact that there is no hard copy of the manuals, game-play becomes a constant frustration. There IS a "Strategy Guide" available that is minimally helpful but nowhere nearly as good as the ones for 6 through 9. All in all, and even though I am a big fan of older games in general - the Games and the Guide were a BIG disappointment. I wish that I had not purchased them.

Wrong Item,

The seller of this archive actually sent me the Mandate of Heaven compilation, saying they have not had this item for months.I am annoyed, and upset, because I cannot find a listing for this item anywhere else. :( Why don't they just open a listing for the game they are actually selling? :( |
