WARNING!! THIS CD IS MIXED! (SONGS RUN TOGETHER),
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ultimate New Wave Party 1998 (Audio CD)
There is good selection on this CD, and the fidelity is outstanding. However, BE WARNED THAT this CD is mixed--that is, the next song will start before the present song is finished playing. If you are just listening as background or for exercise, fine. But if you are trying to pick up specific tracks, avoid this CD, as you will not get a "clean" copy of your target tracks; instead the start of your target track will be combined with the end of the previous track, and then the end of your target track will be combined with the start of the next track. (There are only a couple of seconds overlap usually between the departing and arriving track.)
Because it is mixed and that is not a featured fact on the CD, I give it only 3 stars. But if the mixing doesn't bother you or if you prefer it, it is a very solid compilation. And if you like mixing, the mixing is quite well done. However, all these songs are available elsewhere in unmixed compilations if you look around a little. Go to Google Advanced Search, type in the name of the song in the "exact phrase" search section, then put the group's name (in quotations if more than one word) and the key phrase "various artists" (also in quotes) in the top line of the search area (the "all the words" search area). You will easily find other compilations with your target songs on them. Happy Hunting! Oh and don't be confused by the "1998" in the title, there is no connection to that year in the CD itself, it is all '80s originals.

An excellent New Wave collection,
This review is from: Ultimate New Wave Party 1998 (Audio CD)
"Ultimate New Wave Party 1998" is an excellent collection of songs. Most of the selections on this disc are from the 80s, and listening to the disc reminds me why so many people remember 80s music with such fondness. This CD strikes a near-perfect mix of romance (Modern English, "I Melt With You"), wounded cynicism (Soft Cell, "Tainted Love"), irresistible self-indulgence (Billy Idol, "Dancing With Myself"), sensuality (Berlin, "Take My Breath Away"), animalistic sexuality (Duran Duran, "Hungry Like the Wolf"), whimsy (Madness, "Our House"; Thomas Dolby, "She Blinded Me with Science"), and weirdness (Eurythmics, "Sweet Dreams"; A Flock of Seagulls, "I Ran"). Highly recommended.

Nice New Wave Set,

"Ultimate New Wave Party" gives you some of the best new wave tunes from the 80s.
The sound quality is excellent and there are liner notes. While the mix sounds good when listening to the CD in its entirety, it makes selecting individual tunes or shuffle play a little dicey - which is the only reason I didn't give this CD 5 stars. But if you love the 80s or you're throwing an 80s party then this is the CD for you!

it seems that i have concentrated on the 6o's
and 70's in my cd collection. there was not much from the 80's decade except for talking heads ,clash, pearl jam etc. this collection fills that hole quite nicely. it starts out with the romantics and billy idol i forgot how much these two bands rocked. you will also get flock seagulls, abc, duran duran alot of british new wave. the cut by the fine young cannibals 'you drive me crazy' is quite catchy & will remind you of why you liked it even if its been 10 years since you last heard it. recommended

While all these songs have appeared on other CDs and this CD is mixed, making it pretty much useless for serious collectors on both points, it has ONE gem. The more 'dance' oriented 1992 remix of Berlin's Take My Breath Away that got pretty heavy airplay, at least on New York radio, is here in its radio length (a little under 4 minutes). This is the ONLY place I've ever seen this remix on CD. It was originally released on bootleg vinyl back in the vinyl in its longer 12" mix, but at least it's been preserved digitally in some form on here.

Top notch selections though songs cut off at end,

I went through high school listening to this stuff and it brings back good memories. All the songs are winners and the sound quality is crisp and clear. My only complaint is that the songs flow into each other, which means that the ending on many songs gets cut off abrubtly. This is a minor annoyance though on an otherwise great CD.

Best New Wave Comp. I've Found!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ultimate New Wave Party 1998 (Audio CD)
Great collection of New Wave songs. Songs and bands that you usually don't find on other 80s Comps. Some of the bands featured....(And Hard to FInd all on one CD) Bowie, ABC, Duran Duran, Madness, Thompson Twins, SOft Cell, Modern English, Berlin, and Thomas Dolby. Mixed like a DJ is doing it, it's like being back in an 80s club.

I collect 80's wave CDs, and this is by far the best collection I've seen. Everything on it is good.

Fine and dandy CD but mixing is a pain,

This is as almost as good a new wave hits cd as you're going to get... though ignoring two of the greatest artists, Tears for Fears and Devo, is a grave misstep. The segue between each tracks is, in my opinion, annoying and unneccesary. It makes "Random" mode and ripped mp3s sound stupid.
