One would think that the title of this book is an exaggeration, but it isn't. I read books and articles prior to this book, but this book has it all. Whether you're a beginner (like me) or you're really into competing or you just want a great physical outdoor workout, this is the only book that you will need.

You get everything "from soup to nuts": the history, choosing all the equipment, the techniques of nordic walking, a weight loss program, encouragement about fighting diseases, a total exercise program, and ten(!) fitness programs. It's very well written by a top track and field coach, an excellent educator, and a fitness pioneer.

Buy the book, then head out for a wonderful time; guaranteed.

I am a new user of Nordic Poles for my walking regime. I had rotary cuff surgery about five months ago, and feel that the use of the Nordic walking poles is good exercise for helping to strengthen my shoulder. (My neighbors call me 'the old lady that walks with two canes') I especially like the warm-up exercises. Mitzy Allen, Punta Gorda, Florida

Nordic walking is soooo much better than walking without poles ~ I don't know why this hasn't caught on in the U.S. like it has in Europe!! I will NEVER walk for fitness without poles again! I am seriously considering giving free classes in our community center because it is so awesome. I would have given this product 5 stars, but the company that sent me the book, "books-fyi" sent me this product two weeks late and badly damaged! DO NOT use this company: BOOKS-FYI, choose someone else!

Those who are even remotely interested in health and physical fitness - this is your book. It is easy to read, the both medical and physical explanations are superb. The documentation, graphics and pictures underline the message that Nordic Pole Walking is good for everybody, all ages, all kind of fitness levels and it helps to improve medical situations like high blood pressure, obesity, all the complications of diabetis and more. Keep in mind that 70% of all health troubles are controllable by ourselve!
Pole Walking is easy to learn, the equipment is reasonibly priced and can be done both on beaches, in parks or on solid pavements. Done in groups it provides a lot FUN. As the author says: FITNESS, FRIENDS and FUN.

Ekkehard G. Grampp - an excited Pole Walker for years!!!

Nordic Walking is the second-most fun ;-) and #1 most effective form of exercise. It raises the heart rate, burns more calories than regular walking by working 90% of the major muscle groups with less perceived effort, and protects the joints from impact-related wear and tear and injury. This is the best introduction to Nordic Walking we've found, with good sections on equipment, warm-ups, cool-downs and proper walking technique as taught by International Nordic Walking Federation professionals, which many other books do not. Gives basics but not as much info on how to use them for hiking, mainly for walking. Did have a nice section on exercises you could do while standing and using the poles.

The book was ok. Good pictures and it did help me get the hang of walking with poles easier. Lots of extra unnecessary info in the book though.
