5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Meditation (not intended for a sing-along!)
"Ultimate OM" is an album with a single track of a meditational sound. It's not intended for easy listening or lovely tunes to whistle to. 1.0 out of 5 stars Synthesizer loops and no trace of human voices!!!!!
Very misleading editorial review saying that the album contains the sound of hundreds of voices chanting "OM"
in unison, etc..... when in reality there are only synthesized sounds looped in a mechanical, monotonous pace
with no natural variations or any resemblance of the OM chanted by human voices.
The best OM recording I came across so far is...

"Ultimate OM" is an album with a single track of a meditational sound. It's not intended for easy listening or lovely tunes to whistle to. The Om is sung by multiple voices and overlap so you won't hear each syllable as is traditionally used. It sounds like a constant Hummmmm. If you visit Jonathon Goldman's website you can hear other samplings of his technique and use of other vowel sounds in his chanting. "Hum" is a higher medititational state than "OM" and this sound helps me attune to it. Focusing on this sound is quite effective. I use it almost every day as it tunes me to a high level without evoking emotion.

When I went looking for a true "Hum" this was the closest I could find. I could personally do without the tiny tunes and flutes he adds in for sparkle. The pure hum is better for me. It's a meditational aid, and a very good one at that!

If you meditate and wish to get to a higher level this can help. It depends on your tradition and training in meditation as to whether you like it. Make sure you click on the sound sample before buying so you have a true idea of what you're getting. It really does sound like that the whole way through!

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate Hum, March 13, 2004
This review is from: Ultimate Om (Audio CD)
This album contains the sound of the "Rolling Om," a continuous tone created by a roomful of people chanting the OM mantra. Goldman recorded this rolling sound with the latest technology underpinned by his knowledge of sacred sound, intentionality and psychoacoustics. The sound utilizes the Pythagorean ratio of 2:3, which is an aspect of the Golden Mean, and vibrates in the keynote of C (256 cycles per second), which is considered a harmonic of the resonant frequency of the earth's electro magnetic field.

On the first listen, it just sounded like a slowly evolving hum with flutes weaving in and out of the mix. Subsequent listens have revealed the beauty of this gentle humming sound, whilst the "flutes" are really voice overtones as I subsequently discovered. These overtones or harmonics that float in and out of the mix were created by Goldman and Alec Sims and are the natural result of an overtone singer chanting the OM. They color the overall sound in an intriguing way, ensuring a gentle but profound spiritual listening experience.

The CD booklet contains fascinating information on mantras, the pronunciation of the OM, the creation of this recording, the science of psychoacoustics and the qualities of harmonics. The uses recommended for this music includes: enhancing sacred space for healing and ritual, a listening tool for meditation, inducing states of deep relaxation, as a background to chant to or just to surround oneself with a gentle sonic background whilst working or relaxing. Total playing time is just over 71 minutes.

In addition to Ultimate Om, I recommend Jonathan Goldman's exquisite Chakra Chants, another sonic masterpiece that was made for balancing the body's seven main energy vortices through the appropriate use of vocal and instrumental sounds. I bought Ultimate Om because I was so impressed by Chakra Chants, and I have not been disappointed. Goldman's beautiful healing music is profoundly inspiring and uplifting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate beauty and power - the sound of true healing, February 13, 2006

This review is from: Ultimate Om (Audio CD)
I'm a Reiki master and energy healer working in New York City, and incorporate several of Jonathan Goldman's CDs in my work. This CD, "Ultimate OM" is in my opinion one of the most profound recordings ever made. It is not possible to hear this -- what shall I call it? Sound? Music? Energy? -- and not have a positive effect in body, mind, and soul.
The technical aspects of the recording are interesting, but the energetic effects are what draw me and my clients into sacred space. I could write many paragraphs about the healings that I and others have received while "Ultimate OM" is flowing. This is the sound of many waters; it is the sound of life; it is the sound of healing. OM is a human sound, yet utterly divine -- the point in human experience where (and when) the infinite touches the organic, making the two one.
I am glad to give a strong recommendation for "Ultimate OM" because it is an effective and beautiful instrument for doing good in the lives of humans, and in our sacred earth.
Thank you, Jonathan, for this gift.

I have been using this CD for over 6 months and I have to say that I would recommend it to anyone who needs to really concentrate during their meditation. Focus the OM sound through
your chakras or into just one chakra and at the same time focus the breath into that chakra. This CD is a vital tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such perfection..., February 24, 2003

Put this music on while you do other things... and the effect is transforming... Such simplicity... Such beauty... Such subtlety... It is interesting how some music... some tones... just work. I've had this album one week now, and it seems to get more beautiful and more profound every day. Thank you, Jonathan!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trippy CD!, June 21, 2005
This review is from: Ultimate Om (Audio CD)
I bought this CD after having enjoyed his other one, The Divine Name. I love this CD, and this is not the first OM recording I've owned.

I put this one on after unwrapping it while my sister and I were talking. And after only five minutes we realized that we both felt very "trippy" (my sister's word). We felt extremely relaxed and we found our conversation going into very deep places.

I recommend The Ultimate OM along with a nice cup of Green Tea to wash away any tension. Something very uncommon is going on with Jonathan's music: he's a genius at understanding how sound can deeply affect emotions!

I see that some other reviewers here didn't think as highly of it. I have to wonder if perhaps they are insensitive to its effects. With a few more attempts at listening, they might have also FELT the consciousness-shifting power of The Ultimate Om.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not the usual hype without substance, March 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Ultimate Om (Audio CD)
I have used all sorts of CDs that claim they will bring you into a deeper or altered state of consciousness, but this one really delivers. I've been playing it during my yoga practice (typically, I do yoga in silence) and it has definitely increased my focus, peacefulness, and surrender into the poses.
This does not sound like a continuous OM; rather, it fills the space with an OM vibration.
One little note: If you decide to buy this please listen to it a few times before forming an opinion. I wasn't sure it was great until I had heard it three times.

This CD is accompanied by a small booklet explaining the uses for and the recording of Ultimate Om. Reading the booklet, I believe, is really helpful towards appreciating the CD. If you just try to hear this CD cold employing just the intellect and/or without having read the booklet, it could prove to be challenging to listen to. I think those who left unfavorable reviews may have been of such inclinations.

It is very, very soothing to listen to. I have never heard anything that asked so little of me yet gave me so much inner silence. I can't say more than that because, well, all you hear is OM, LOL!

1.0 out of 5 stars Synthesizer loops and no trace of human voices!!!!!, October 8, 2011

The best OM recording I came across so far is Robert Gass" "OM NAMAH SHIVAYA" album which - on track 2 - contains
17 minutes of a continuos OM chant done by a choir of beautiful, real voices.
