More than anything, Melanie want's to help train the filly and be the first one to race her. But, dispite her name, Image is anything but pefect. The filly has ben spoiled by her own doting owner since birth and is impossible to handle. In fact, her owner wants to give up and turn Image into a broodmare, hoping her foals will have better sense hat she does. Melanie is sure Image was born to win. Will she have the guts to fight for the horse that she loves?

O.K. - When I first read the book description I thought I'd hate this book - I mean Christina wasn't riding Star. But after reading the book I loved it! I think the bond between Star and Chris is still strong and they make the best pair. Riding Gratis was an important part of Christina's jockey career. She needed to prove to others and herself that she could ride other horses well. I liked the neat plot and good realistic racing. The upcoming books are: #41 Close Call (About Parker and eventing) #42 The Bad Luck Filly (Melanie and the filly Image, who appeared in this book - a relative to Wonder) #43 Fallen Star (not sure what it's about yet. I hope something bad doesn't happen to Star! I want him to win the Triple Crown in his three year old season!)

i really liked this book, to be honest. it was the most exciting book, but it was realistic and part of one of the better bumps of the tb series. msot of the details on racing were accurate enough for a children's series, and mel's "seconditis" was a nice new concept. she wasn't always winning, but she wasn't always losing. the cure was also believable. and in her choice to ride gratis, i found chris's character to be mature.
it's too bad that this series is ending. i would continue to buy the books, even if they were of lesser quality than this one.

This book was great, but I would have picked Star over Gratis. The TB books keep on getting better and better. This book makes it seem like your really there. All horse lovers should read this book.

A Kid's Review

I liked this book. It was exciting and i loved Gratis! I think its so cool that she got to show everyone that even jockeys like Steve with lots of experiance can't even do what Christina- a bug- can do!In here though they make it sound like Missy is older than Raven and Rascal, I thought that three years ago Kevin Melinie and Chris took care of them when they were all weenlings? which would mean they are the same age. And CHRIS PICKED GRATIS? I couldn't belive it! I like it but I would never have done that and its hard to belive chris would! This is one of the best books ever! I hope they stay this way!

I absolutly love this book! I think it is one of the best in the whole series! I love how Christina has to decide whether to ride Star or Gratis. I also love how Christina and Melanie get to ride against eachother! And the ending....... though I'll leave that to you to find out! I definatly recommend reading this book!

This is a great book, but for people who are thinking of buying this book(really! they should buy it!) may want to know the edetorial review of this book. I'm writing it here:A great opportunity... Now that Christina Reese and her cousin Melanie Graham are jockeys, they want to ride as many horses for as many trainers as they possibly can. When Christina is asked to ride a diffcult horse for one of the best-known trainers on Kentucky, she leaps at the chance to prove herself. But she'll have to race against her own horse__ Wonder's Star. Is worth the risk? I put this book on the shelf where I keep all my favorite THOROUGBRED books. There's some THOROUGHBRED books that didn't quite make it the favorite shelf though. I have a HATE shelf as well. And for the books that end up there, they hardly get read at all. There's: THE HORSE OF HER DREAMS , MELANIE'S TREASURE , STERLING'S SECOND CHANCE and DYLAN'S CHOICE. They're all on my hate shelf. Partly because I thought that in those books, SOME of the characters were snobby and stuck-up(I hate that). And there's other reasons as well. But this book was a HUGE succes! I'M SERIOUS.

I have read every single book w/the name Thoroughbred on it. I am in total love w/racing and horses. The new writers though, have gotten plenty of things mixed up. First of all, Jilly and Wonder won the Kentucky Derby. Not Ashliegh and Wonder. And when the new Thoroughbred series started on book 24, Christina had strawbarry blonde hair or something. Her hair color just changed in the middle of books. Also Christina was talking about her being to tall to be a jockey. And what ever happened to Cassidy and Dylan and Katie and Sebreaze? I would like to know what has happpened in there lives, as well as Clay Townsend. Some of the other horses are missing to. Like nobody talks about Glory or Wonder's Pride anymore, and all they other wonderful horses. Especially Triple Crown winner Wonder's Champion. What happened to Tophat, and Christina's little pony? and Melanie's blind horse she used to pony with? I know a lot of new writers are coming in and all but some of this is and unbelievable mess. I think that Jonna Campbell should write at least 3 more Thoroughbred books. But I did like this book. It kicked me in the gut when Christina decided not to ride Star in the Futurity. I know that Gratis was a special horse, but Star is just unbelievalby special. but that's all I have to say. I know that a lot of others aren't satisfied w/the books that are now coming out. but we can only hope things will get straigtened out. I will, though, continue to enjoy these awesome books.

I WANT TO BE HEARD!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ultimate Risk (Thoroughbred Series #40) (Paperback)
People , I relly really love the thoroughbred series and I stuck by it when they screwed up the wonder's last foal cause remember christina sold him for sterling( dumb decision ) and then puff here comes another last foal and other facts are incorrect to! Joanna Campbell should write them again and if she cant then Karen Bently! They get the facts right and first it was racing then eventing then racing why cant they just make up their minds! But depite all this I am really excited about Cindy coming back but I dont like the idea of her being played out as mean! And what about Max...? I think Joanna Campbell really need' sto get the series back on track and no more stuff ups! I am australian so I dont get the books the same time as the american readers but I have alot of the collection adn I dont want to see this series go to waist!
