The best single CD of 50s Rock, and 25 songs too! Well worth the price.
All songs are original hits by original artists. Of 55 CDs of 1950s songs that I own, this is easily the best. 1/4/06 Update: Whoever put this collection together did more than simply pick songs based on sales charts, because two of my personal favorites that didn't chart very high ("Love Potion No. 9" and "Shout") are included.

I purchased this CD for a fall get-together of a fun, energetic group of my husband's high school classmates (class of '57). As they all turned 70 years of age this year, I thought a group birthday party/BBQ would be fun. The CD was perfect. I noticed them all singing along at various times during the evening. I think there might have been a little dancing, too. I am totally satisfied with this CD.

I actually bought this CD for my father and on Christmas I downloaded it to my ipod...so many classic 50's songs that we all love and remember. Takes me back to my childhood nights listening to my parents with all of their friends...

Very Good But With Quality Questions,

This certainly seems to be a good selection of original artists and original hits. However, I noted a few quality matters.
On "Since I Don't Have You", there is a faint glitch toward the end. I've heard this on two different copies of this CD. "La Bamba" cuts off abruptly. Other copies of this song may also have this, but I noticed it here. "Shout" has a tic, the kind of sound you get from a vinyl record. There may be other quality questions. I haven't reviewed all of the tunes carefully since I didn't need all of them. Some people might think I'm being picky. Maybe I just notice more because I've done a lot of editing to remove noise when transferring from vinyl to CD. In my opinion, all songs on published CDs should have been carefully edited. FYI: I'm a record collector of 50 years and a sometimes deejay.

WELL CATS AND CHICKS, THE BEST STAX ON WAX AIN'T THIS, BUT IT'S PRETTY GOOD. USUALLY NOT A FAN OF 'COLLECTIBLES' COMPANY WHO PUT THIS TOGETHER, BUT ON THIS, THEY GOT IT RIGHT,SOMEWHAT. I SAY SOMEWHAT BECAUSE, YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT U WANT, BUT IT IS AN OVERALL GOOD C.D. THE SOUND QUALITY IS GOOD, CLEAR..THE SONG SELECTIONS RANGE FROM 'IN THE STILL OF THE NIGHT' A CLASSIC DOO-WOP, TO THE EVERLY BROTHER'S 'BYE BYE LOVE'...FOR SOMEONE JUST GETTING INTO THE OLDIES I SAY GET IT, IT IS WORTH IT; IF YOU HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO OLIDES AS LONG AS I HAVE, (OVER 35 YEARS), IT MAY NOT BE YOUR CUP OF TEA...IF YOUR REALLY INTO THE OLDIES, I WOULD GO WITH EITHER THE OLDIES BUT GOODIES COLLECTION FROM TIME-LIFE(AVAILABLE HERE), OR THE AMERICAN GRAFFITI SDTK...OVERALL A GOOD COLLECTION OF HITS...ROCK ON CATS!

This 50's album made me feel as if I was back in the 50's with Buddy Holly, Conway Twitty, Fats Domino, Richie Valens,Elvis Presley and others. The sound was great and the songs were by the original singers. I play this album all the time.

There seems to be some misinformation in the track listing above,

I don't own this, but Amazon seems to have gotten some information wrong in the track listing above. They have the Danny & the Juniors song,"At the Hop" as being by Joan Armatrading.I know that the listings show the author of the song and not the performer (which,by the way,I think is stupid),but Joan Armatrading was an African artist from England who recorded in the '70s & '80s and never had a hit in the U.S.,so I hardly think that she wrote "At the Hop".Also it lists the song,"For Your Love" on this collection. While that song was indeed written by Graham Gouldman,it was a hit for the Yardbirds in 1965 and hardly belongs on a 1950s comp. One of the songs that I noticed missing from this collection (if Amazon's track listing is correct) is "Wake Up Little Susie" by the Everly Brothers (there's probably others, but that was the most glaring omission that I saw). That song was their first #1 hit.Instead,we're left with "Bye Bye Love" which made it to #2.Amazon really needs to do more research before publishing a track listing.

This collection is pretty good - a glass of wine, some decent speakers and you're dancing like you're 14 again.

I got this CD for my brother for Christmas. I wasn't sure if he would like it because he already has a big selection, and I didn't know if he had these already are not. When he looked on the back he was really pleased with who all was on the CD. So I would say that this would be really good for somebody who enjoys the oldies music.
