4.0 out of 5 stars Quite fun...4.5 stars
I'll be the first to admit it, I'm not a video game guy. I buy one or two games per year, and the last one I bought was Spider-Man 2, which I played like crazy. I loved that game. When I heard about Ultimate Spider-Man, and that it was going to have the same structure as SM2, I knew that it would be my gaming purchase of the season.

I definitely did not waste...

Ordered the game with the title "just like new", but it came scratched. We had to have it professionally cleaned. It works, but it still skips.

I definitely did not waste my money. If you enjoyed Spider-Man 2, chances are you're going to enjoy this game as well.

So far, I am very happy with this game. It will give me many hours of enjoyment. Still, there are elements of the game that could have been improved. The radar/map that was present in SM2 is still intact, but is much harder to see in this incarnation. Swinging through trees is disorientating as well. These are minor gripes, and once I got used to them, the game is just as good as SM2. Currently I am stuck trying to chase Electro as Venom, a task that is proving much harder than any of the Black Cat chases in the previous game.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a fun waste of almost 5 hours of button mashing and web swinging. You play as spider-man and the villan "Venom". Playing as Venom is a fun add-on to the game for sure. Possibly a Must have for intense Spider-Man fans.

I like this game. may be half of it,well see there's parts of the game where you at least get to be some guy cooler then weak old spider looser.Like for example:Venom,he can jump 50 feet in the air by pressing one button on the controller.unlike spider looser who can't even jump 5 inches.anyway the sad part about this game is you have to be spider looser and travel 3 miles and then you get to the cool level, and the cool guy.anyway if your reading this review at this point,I would recommend this game if you hate spider looser and love the criminals.

After several incarnations of Spiderman games based on the movies, we've finally been given a game based on the comics. The truth is, if you like Spiderman and enjoy the comics for being everything the movies aren't, then this is the game for you. The art is great and the cell shaded style fits the comic book theme. The dialogue is everything it should be: witty, well written, true to Spider-form, and not voiced by Tobey Maguire. The webslinging is beautiful to watch and several game mechanics are well formed including the "level-up" mechanism, the Spider-sense system, and-of course-the webslinging.

One problem from a gaming standpoint is that the game is short. The designers try to lengthen the game by making you complete side missions (races, combat tours, etc.). But this doesn't lengthen the game as much as it just slows you down a little. The only thing keeping the races from being monotonous is the enjoyment of watching the wall-crawler's aerial grace.

All in all, if you're a spidey fan, this game is a must have. Between the concept art, fun writing, and classic characters the enjoyment is worth it, even if the story is short. If you've never read Spiderman and are a pure gamer, then this might not be for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roger's Review of Ultimate Spiderman, August 7, 2009

I enjoy Ultimate Spiderman and so do my nephews, the reason why I purchased this particular game. Most of the Spiderman games are based on the movies, but I'm a comic book fan also, and its nice to see a Spiderman game based on a comic series. Playing as Venom throughout the game is a bonus, allowing the player to play the evil side for once, and Venom is so much fun to play. I give Ultimate Spiderman for the Gamecube a 10 out of 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME GAME!!!!, August 4, 2009
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ultimate Spider-Man (Video Game)
Okay, bottom line, THIS GAME IS AWESOME!!!! I mean the only other Spider-Man game I've played is "Spider-Man: The Movie", and I had high expectations for this game, what with all the good reviews I read. Boy, was I not disappointed! This game is better than "Spider-Man: The Movie" for a number of reasons. One,the most obvious reason, is that you can play as Venom! This part of the game I love, because you can pick up and throw cars, and because Venom is freakin' AWESOME!! Two, the combat system. Instead of being some nutty kid that can be pushed around by thugs, you actually feel like Spider-Man. You can now dispatch a gang more easily and more quickly. You can also tie thugs to street lamps (did I mention you can go on the ground?) and I think it looks totally HILARIOUS! Plus, the thugs don't all look exactly the same, and they have more weapons. Instead of just pistols and sub-machine guns, they have pistols, sub-machine guns, REAL machine guns, rifles, kinves, and I once met a guy with a flamethrower (true story!) Three, your spider-sense. In "Spider-Man: The Movie", you only use your spider-sense for four things: a charging forklift, a blast from the Shocker, an approaching secuity guard, and a blast from the Supermech's cannon. In "Ultimate Spider-Man", your spider-sense goes off just to warn you that a thug is about to shoot a gun at you! (Which, means that it goes off for a hundred other reasons.) Four, the free roam. You can do story missions, once you've unlocked them, or you can just swing around the city, fighting muggers, saving lives, finding tokens, and completeing combat tours and trick races. Five, you don't have a web meter, which means you can dispatch a whole gang, only with web attacks, and not worry about a thing. Overall, I would say buy it right now if you're a Spider-Man fan!

4.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Spider-man, Fun but Brief, July 6, 2007
A Kid's Review
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Ultimate Spider-Man (Video Game)
Ultimate Spider-man was created by Treyarch and Activision, their third Spider-man game. The game is fun but repetitive and brief. Ultimate Spider-man was a comic that launched in the 2000s. It is a reenvisioning of Spider-man for a new generation. This game is not based on a movie. The game's opening sequence takes only a couple of seconds to explain the origin of Spider-man using only the words "This is how it all began." Then, it goes straight to the chase. Peter's father, Richard Parker, and Eddie Brock Jr.'s father, both worked on the Venom Project. Despite its menacing name, it was designed to be a suit that could cure cancer. When they signed a contract with Boliver Trask, he turned it into a powerful weapon. In more recent years, Peter and Eddie meet, and Eddie shows Peter the suit. Later, Peter Parker(As Spider-man) breaks into the place where the suit is being kept and tries it on. The suit gives him enhanced strength but it starts to devour him. He manages to get it off, but it nearly costs him his life. When Eddie Brock realizes what Peter had done, he tries the suit on, and becomes the monstrosity known as Venom, which leads to an opening battle: Peter Parker against Venom. The graphics look amazingly like a comic book. The actual game play buttons have been simplified since the last Spider-man game. This game is not a bad purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice game very enjoyable, May 23, 2007
A Kid's Review

This review is from: Ultimate Spider-Man (Video Game)
This game caught my eye when on the TV I saw and I qoute:Play as spiderman play as venom! end qoute:it was fun and the very first level was a personal favorite because you play as a much more younger 15 year old spiderman compared to the spiderman 2 version which makes him seem like 24 maybe and what I like is that you fight (a weak but fast)Venom I was sucked into the game then once I hit him a couple times the battle goes off to the street where everyone is screaming (something which spidey 2 incredibly lacked because they had no interatcion with thugs and this like that)after seeing the big ugly face of venom and Venom might kill a few civilians (something else spidey 2 lacked)he had this really great move where he laxs out a long whiplash arm attack which can be hurtfull not only that but you also get eaten a couple times which made it more fun to break out of his body a few times untill you eventually gets venom on a date with an electrical wire which (from peters view) kills him thats about it all in all the good is that Nice texture and graphics the ability to be able to play as venom and spidey and fun fighting bosses the bad is that sometimes the storyline doesn,t really make any sense and lose your trail from where you were to where you are now
