The game's expanded, free-roaming environments deliver a deep adventure with a variety of challenging missions, diverse game play, and an improved combat system that allows players to face off against the largest number of characters from the Spider-Man universe ever assembled in one video game.
Play as Spider-Man and Venom in an original storyline
Play both sides as they triumph over evil as Spider-Man AND assume the role of the super villain Venom, rampaging through Manhattan as they destroy everything in their path. The two distinct combat systems allow you to defeat enemies differently, using Spider-Man's fluid, acrobatic moves or Venom's brute force. More Spider-Man universe characters than ever before Story and illustration by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, the force behind the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series / All-new Spider-Mann story is revealed as the game picks up where the comic book left off ESRB = Teen for Language and Violence

...there are a few problems with it. However, first the good news. Spidey is very much true to form in his classic Marvel attitude and look. Thankfully, Treyarch did not forget what I consider to be one of the most essential parts of the Spiderman mythos--his wisecracks! There were parts during the Human Torch/Spidey races where I just about fell on the floor, I was laughing so hard!
Ok, now, unfortunately for Treyarch, we come to the bad points of this game. In trying to learn webslinging, I dicovered that (at least on the Xbox version) it was too largely a matter of button-mashing at a confusingly quick pace. Speaking of webs, in the combat scenarios, there is precious little you can do with them other than "stunning" foes momentarily or gluing them to the ground (!) to keep them from recovering after a KO. My biggest gripe, however, and the one which lost this game a star for me, is that the story mode is WAY TOO SHORT! Unfortunately, Treyarch seems, in cutting off the game story, to be on the cutting edge of a depressing trend (just a fad, God willing) in today's games. Whoever does the next Spidey game (Spider-Man 3?) PLEASE bring us a deeper, longer, richer storyline!! A good variety of unlockables, although nice, just doesn't make up for this inexcusable apparent laziness on the part of Treyarch and other current game developers. So, in conclusion, I contend that this game is good for rental somewhere, rather than purchase. (Sorry Amazon, but at least now your customers will know what they're really getting.)

This game is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Definitely worth buying!
Pros: You get to play as Spidey and Venom. Venom's awesome, even though it's pretty brutal to suck life out of innocent people ;(. Apart from that, the first(yes, I mean very first) thing that will catch your attention are the graphics. HA, every comic book fan will love it! And all the landmarks are great, like the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park! Standing on top of a skyscraper and then diving down towards the street really makes you feel great. Cons: Although NYC is modeled almost perfectly, if you have a machine that's a little under the req.'s, you will experienxe choppy gameplay that can be confusing at times:).The camera isn't perfect either. And the city goals get really repetitive after awhile. The city could also be a little bigger, and you can't(as far as I understand) get to the Statue of Liberty!!!! Overall, this game is great and is definitely worth buying or renting. Great gameplay, awesome costumes(waaahh, only AFTER beating the game), and two different characters make htis game well worth all the time and effort you put into beating this game. BUY IT!

After getting burnt by Spider-man 2 for PC which is NOT the same as Spider-man 2 on any other system, this was the only game in the general time frame that let you web swing around New York. Spider-man 2 for PC, which I was tricked into getting was a linear (non-sandbox) game aimed at kids, though you wouldn't know it from the box. Anyway, I jumped at the chance to get this one so I could finally swing around the city.First, I can confirm that it runs under Windows 7 64-bit. It's impressive that a game so old works on Windows 7 and it says it is not compatible on Microsoft's site, but I experienced no issues at all. It ran perfectly and I just finished it tonight. Game play, it's a mixed bag. The story missions and animation are some of the better I've ever seen in a game. The cell shading animation still stands up even today. However, the rest of the sandbox bits where you have to fight muggers and win races can get boring and repetitive really fast. You are required to do a certain number of them before you can unlock the next mission, so unless you eat your vegetables you are stopped from getting your dessert. On the plus side, they at least didn't make you do all that many of them. You'll only wast maybe an hour or two with them. The game is very short, you can beat it in maybe 6 hours or less counting that busy work. Before most boss fights there's a race. Generally, I didn't like them and trying to keep up with the bad guy just irritated me. The boss fights and story themselves were pretty much all great. One thing, the camera is awful and made playing the game painful at times. It also detracted from boss fights making it hard to target. I don't know if it's just the mouse and keyboard I was forced to use, but control was very frustrating overall. I think it'd be easier with a controller, though I can't see that helping the camera much. Overall, if you've got a low end machine this would still be a great one to play since it's so old. Even with it's problems, it's probably the best sandbox Spider-man you'll find on the PC even now. 2115|R479QPWZZU3K0;2115|R3CHENBUFZ8PG2;2115|R16483KELKU0FU;
