Great photos, but.............,

This review is from: Ultimate Stock Car (Hardcover)
On my first pass through the book, I noted eight captions that were not correct (pp. 50, 60, 66, 81, 106, 108, 134, 136). It is difficult to believe that an auto racing book of this "ultimate" caliber could make it out the publisher's door with such blatant errors as mistaking a Chevrolet Laguna for a Monte Carlo, a Ford 427 wedge for a Chrysler hemi, RICHARD PETTY for Steve Park, and so on.My particular heroes and their cars are well represented, the pictures and graphics are outstanding, but I cannot help being skeptical of any information for which I am not already familiar. I'm being generous giving this book 3 stars, but that's mainly for the eye-appeal.

Ultimate inaccuracies,

This book has great pictures and what appears to be good information, until you get to pages 80-81. The inaccuracies on these pages are blatant enough to make me question the accuracies of the whole book. The listing of the final year of the hemi in racing is wrong. They also show a picture of a "429 ci Hemi". The picture is of a "wedge" engine, not a hemi, and Chrysler did not make a 429 ci motor. It was 426 ci. The book would be good, if it was accurate. |
