If this is to be used as a survival tool someone will certainly die from exposure. After filling reservoir one to may be three lights of les than 5 second duration empties all the fuel. This is in addition to requiring several depressions of the plunger for spark. I don't want another as I'd have no faith in it. I'm a Maine Master Guide and Outfitter, and wouldn't recommend this to my worse enemy.
I think you should actually remove it from your product listings.

I filled it full of butane and it will not work. I played with the +/- setting, read the directions, everything and it would not light. I could hold down the button and light it with a lighter and it would light and stay lit but unlike it's claim that it is windproof, the slightest puff would blow it out. I bought it to replace a very good working stormproof lighter that I bought at Walmart years ago but recently lost. You cannot return it after you put butane in it.

Not much good to say about this lighter. It was cheap and i was hoping I would get a decent product at a great price. What I got was a bad product that I believe I paid to much for. Would not recommend to anyone else. When it comes to Survival/Weatherproof lighters you get what you pay for.

Totally worthless! One of my coworkers said he'd bought the same one and it didn't work for him either. Not worth returning with shipping etc. UST just gets donations from everyone...

Terrible lighter. Lights maybe one out of every five tries, and when you release the button, butane continues to leak out.

I wanted an electronic lighter. Had previous units. This works as needed every time. I highly recommend this. I have 2 in my gear.

I bought this lighter because it looked like something I could really use while camping. When I received it and filled it with the butane, I could not get it to light at all. I changed the setting for the flame, tried to let some of the gas out by holding down the igniter, and even tried shaking it for about ten minutes(!), all to no avail. I was going to call UST and ask what to do, but two days later I tried it again and it seems to work fine.

I don't get it, but I'll take it! Except for that little drama I think I'll be able to rely on this lighter for quite a while.

I'd definitely recommend this product.

Yes, it is very important to hold the button down half way for a split second before continuing on to the ignition position (all the way in). The gas comes out faster initially, with a slight burst of higher pressure, and then slows to the adjusted level.
As some have alluded to, it is also touchy on the flame adjustment. Too high and it wont light (too rich), and too low (too lean) and it wont light. The sweet spot is about two or three times the width of the screwdriver slot on the adjuster. However, once you comply with these limitations it works great.
The flame can be adjusted from just a glow on the wire filament that runs across the flame opening, with no visible flame showing outside the hole, up to a small flame extending out the hole. Either way there ample hot gas coming out for it to light things held near the flame port hole and stay lit in the wind. It works better to light things in the wind with the flame turned up somewhat.
The glowing element inside the hole keeps the flame from going out in the wind. You can blow it out by blowing very hard right into the hole, but normally it wont go out even in quite strong wind.
It has a nice o-ring gasket to keep water out. It has a spring loaded latch that catches when you close it, and an additional flip over latch for additional security and water proof assurance.
It floats as advertised.

I have tried carrying conventional windproof lighters using lighter fluid. The ability to use multi-fuels seems like a good idea, but I don't smoke and get tired of filling lighters with lighter fluid every couple of weeks when not in use due to evaporation of the fluid. this lighter ends up being more dependable for me. If I have a pack on (even a day pack) I also carry a fire steel.
I bought this on at REI so I could take it back. But, it cost less on Amazon.
