Finally we can buy a Greatest hits album from this fantastic singer. Here you'll find almost all her hits, I say this because "Spanish guitar" and "How could an angel break my heart" aren't here. This cd contains the following tracks: 1- "Give u my heart" (with Babyface) 2- "Love shoulda brought you home" 3- "Another sad love song" 4- "Breath again" 5- "Seven whole days" (live) 6- "You mean the world to me" 7- "How many ways" 8- "You're making me high" 9- "Let it flow" 10-"Un-break my heart" 11-"I love me some him" 12-"I don't want to" 13-"He wasn't man enough" 14-"Just be a man about it" 15-"Hit the freeway" (with Loon) 16-"Whatchu need" (new song) 17-"The little things" (new song) 18-"Un-break my heart" (remixed version) Toni has released 5 studio albums in her career. The first one was in 1993 with the tittle "Toni Braxton". The album won 3 Grammys and was certified Platinum x8 (sold 10 million copies worldwide). The second album was "Secrets" from 1996. The album was also certified Platinum x8 (sold 12 million copies worldwide) and won 2 Grammy awards. Then after some troubles with her label Toni released "The heat" in 2000. An album fresher than her first 2, once again Toni released a hit, the album was certified Platinum x2 in the U.S (sold 4 million worldwide) and won a Grammy for the song "He wasn't man enough".

This review is from: Ultimate Toni Braxton (Audio CD)
Over the past 10 years, Toni Braxton has released four proper studio albums, which have each been mixed bags in terms of both genre and quality. For the most part, Ultimate Toni Braxton cuts the filler and presents a decades-worth of pop/r&b hits by one of the most recognizable voices in recent music history."Another Sad Love Song", "Un-Break My Heart". "Breathe Again", "He Wasn't Man Enough", "You're Makin' Me High" and "You Mean The World To Me" are all radio staples worth revisiting, and several of the songs found here, including "Let It Flow" and "Love Shoulda Brought You Home", have enhanced the films in which they were originally featured. ('Waiting To Exhale' and 'Boomerang', respectively) As a perk, the versions of songs on Ultimate are the versions heard every 30 minutes on the radio back in the 90's. It's often disappointing to pick up an artists CD, only to realize there are an additional two minutes of the hit single(s) that you don't (and don't care to) know. This is the only Toni Braxton release to contain her debut single, a collaboration with Babyface (not so much a duet...there's more Toni than Kenny) from the 'Boomerang' movie soundtrack called "Give U My Heart". In addition, there are two new recordings. The fun and essential Rodney Jerkins production "Whatchu Need", is easily Toni's best song since 2000's "He Wasn't Man Enough", while "The Little Things" is a yawn-fest R. Kelly rehash of "I Don't Want To", the song he penned for her in 1996, already included on this CD. The grand finale is a previously unreleased radio cut of the Hex Hector remix for "Un-Break My Heart". More effort could have been put into the sleeve art, but Ultimate Toni Braxton is a solid collection worthy of a place in any pop music lovers collection.

I Love me some Her!,

So it has everything you could want, minus a few but with so many hits your bound to get screwed somewhere...BUT, the point is that what is included is just what we want. Great ballads like 'Un-Break My Heart', 'I Don't Want To' and 'Another Sad Love Song' are here beside dance numbers like the steamy 'You're Makin' Me High' and 'He Wasn't Man Enough'. Toss in some great old school tracks like 'Breathe Again' (still love that song) and 'Give You My Heart', some more recent tracks like 'I Love me Some Hime' and 'Hit The Freeway' and then add some brand new songs (the only good one being 'Whatchu Need' since 'The Little Things' sounds too much like 'Another Sad Love Song') and you have a hit maker...now I will say that the dance remix of 'Un-Break My Heart' rapes the song of all heart and soul but whats one drawback to a bag od success? Great album.
Full track list is as follows: 1. Give U My Heart 5/5 2. Love Shoulda Brought You Home 4/5 3. Another Sad Love Song 5/5 4. Breathe Again 5/5 5. Seven Whole Days (Live) 4/5 6. You Mean The World To Me 5/5 7. How Many Ways 4/5 8. You're Makin' Me High 10/5 9. Let It Flow 3/5 10. Un-Break My Heart 5/5 11. I Love Me Some Him 5/5 12. I Don't Want To 5/5 13. He Wasn't Man Enough 5/5 14. Just Be A Man About It 4/5 15. Hit The Freeway 5/5 16. Whatchu Need 5/5 17. The Little Things 2/5 18. Un-Break My Heart (Soul-Hex Anthem Radio Edit) 0/5

Toni Braxton is a sexy R & B diva who can deliver the goods with a great voice and good songs. The tiny singer can belt out a sad ballad or an up beat dance song with the best of the them and, fortunately for us, her greatest hits have been packaged in one cd. The songs that got her started such as "Another Sad Love Song" and "Love Should Have Brought You Home" start out the set and follow chronologically through her career to such recent hits like "He Wasn't Man Enough" and "Just Be a Man About It". Two previously unreleased songs are included on this "best of" cd, both nice additions to Braxton's set of songs. Also included is a remix of her hit song, "Un-Break My Heart". The biggest surprise to me was the absence of two songs I really liked---"Spanish Guitar (which had some really cool remixes) and the beautiful ballad, "How Could An Angel Break My Heart". Other than these two songs being missed from the line-up, I am perfectly satisfied with this group of songs and will enjoy having it in my cd player. This is a must have for any R & B fan and a definite requirement for any fan of Ms. Braxton. Well worth your money!

Toni Amazes,

Braxton's voice left a mark of the 90's with its deep and sultry tone that embodied classic soul balladry. The diva was pulled away from the scene from the influx of disposable pop, nonetheless, this collection, which is a blatant effort by her previous record company to capitalize on her ailing career as demonstrated by the old sleeve picture from the Secrets era, is proof that Toni Braxton is a figure in modern pop culture that might be on the back burner, but is never forgotten. All the tracks on the album are immense in quality. It is recommended to anyone who didn't live under a rock in the 90's.

An Impressive Collection of Her Biggest Hits - On 1 CD!,
By Hairul "hAIRuLz" (Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ultimate Toni Braxton (Audio CD)
Before buying this compilation, I only had the Secrets album. I never really explored her other material till this album came out. Her debut album is a stunner I must say; and Secrets is an awesome follow-up. In Ultimate, songs like Love Shoulda Brought You Home, Breathe Again, Another Sad Love Song, Seven Whole Days, Let It Flow and He Wasn't Man Enough are the most powerful and biggest hits of hers. Like in every other greatest hits album, there are hits and misses. Songs like Spanish Guitar and How Could An Angel Break My Heart should have been included. And some of the songs in the cd (I Love Me Some Him, How Many Ways) should not be in because its just not a song that grows on you. Sounds totally wack to me. I can safely say that 90% of the songs are either produced or co-produced by Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmunds. His name is stamped everywhere on the credits. Productions by R. Kelly, Diane Warren and Rodney Jerkins adds more impact. The final remix track of Un-break My Heart is such a filler and a spoiler. It should be included in the 2nd disc that came with the package of remixes. Overall this is an awesome album that is worthy of your penny. The first track brings you way back in the early 90's till the millennium. If u are a romantic at heart or been hurt before, this cd is for you. It incorporated all the elements together to give u the ultimate - of Toni Braxton.

Whatever is in the future for Toni Braxton, her legacy has already been conjured up. No matter what happens here, the voice she has recorded will continue to inspire so many actresses and vocalists. I just keep hoping that people will still continue to enjoy Toni Braxton's music for a very, very long time. That isn't a sad love song to sing about. A solid collection worthy of a place in any pop and R&B music lover's collection.

NOT A SINGLE HIT IS MISSING....BUT THE COVER!!!!,
By
This review is from: Ultimate Toni Braxton (Audio CD)
I agree that this is a great collection, Toni's deep voice enchanted everyone!, sadly her last album was avoided by the always odd radio waves!....I love women that sing, and Toni is really gifted...."More Than A Woman" was not a bad album, but the lacked of hits was the problem...."Let Me Show You The Way Out" was a friendly radio song, that should have got promoted, if Arista paid more attention to her established artist, instead of the punk Lavigne...(for the record not only Toni's record failed, TLC, and Whitney, if that doesn't tell you bad promotion, what does?), if should have saved many careers, but any ways, Toni's at Blackground, and I'm sure she's gonna shine!!!!!, this album is an essential if you don't own any Toni album, or if you're a fan, the good thing was that the GH has the ever hard to find short version of the epic anthemic Un-break My Heart Hex Hector Remix, as for the cover I agree with everyone, putting the cover of the Spanish Guitar single was a tacky way to treat someone like Toni.

What Happened Toni?,

Toni Braxton was awesome in the 90's. Back then, she was right up there at the top of the charts with the likes of Mariah and Whitney. This collection captures her various hits quite nicely. You get all of her big top 10 hits including the #1's "Unbreak My Heart" and "You're Making Me High" as well as the #2 hit single "He Wasn't Man Enough." Then of course the two top 5 hits "You Mean the world To Me" and "Breathe Again." And the break-through #7 chart single "Another Sad Love Song." Also, thsi collection includes moderate/minor chart hits "I Don't Want To", "Just Be A Man About It","Hit the Freeway" and "How Many Ways." It's a shame that Toni doesn't pull in the sales and hit singles that she used tp. Her last album was a disappointment, but basicly got no promotion. Hopefully her next effort will do better, but until then, enjoy this! |
